There's been a lot of hype about Pai Mei’s five-point palm exploding heart technique in Kill Bill Vol. 2 before we actually get to see it. We are told that, when executed perfectly, the victim’s heart is, well, doomed to explode after five steps. This throws up questions such as, ‘could you survive it indefinitely if you didn’t take five steps?’, but we digress. In the climax, Uma Thurman’s The Bride takes David Carradine’s Bill by surprise when she suddenly reveals, in a show-don't-tell kinda way, that martial arts masterPai Mei successfully taught her the technique . We’ve studied it carefully, and reluctantly concluded that while it might bruise, it would actually be bugger all use in a fight. Nevertheless, it gives Bill a noble death, collapsing silently to the ground after that fatal fifth step.
