Most Downtrodden (Yet Inspiring) Characters In Movie History
Napoleon Dynamite
Napoleon Dyanmite (2004)
Why he's so miserable: Well, he's an ugly teenager who manages to be ginger, frizzy-haired, gangly, bespecled, badly dressed and a bit of a mouth-breather. He lives with his grandmother (uncool), obsesses over weird things like "ligers" (half-tiger, half-lion, they're his favourite animal) and consistently fails to say the right thing.

Why he's inspiring: He remains entirely oblivious to his own failings, projecting instead a weird sort of self-confidence that somehow prevents one feeling sorry for him. And then there's that dance: after teaching himself some groovy moves from a tape, he uses his mad skillz (as we're sure he'd spell it) to inspire the entire school to vote for Pedro. There's a lesson there somewhere - we're just not sure what it is.
