Mission: Impossible III (2006) - The Bridge Attack

Hunt and his team are in real trouble, stuck on a bridge after an armed ambush of the convoy carrying captured villain Owen Davian (Phillip Seymour Hoffman) leaves a vehicle destroyed. And here comes a missile headed straight for Ethan, who is scrambling to retrieve the Rabbit’s Foot, AKA this movie’s McGuffin. Cruise recruited J.J. Abrams for this one on the strength of his work on Alias, and launched Jeffrey Jacobs’ film-directing career. “The shot where he gets slammed into the car, there was a version of that in the previz and Tom and I – it was on a Friday – were like, ‘Let’s do something crazy. Let’s change it up,” says Abrams. “So we had this idea to have him run and hit the thing. We did it on that Monday a couple of days later, and it was the ability to just be open to ideas that made that stunt possible.”

1 MI:2
I loved MI:2 the most of the films released, as I was raised on John Woo films. Despite some really hammy dialogue, the Spanish scenes at the beginning are gorgeous, and the film really sets the characters into place before the first bullet flies. The climb is a great stunt, but for sheer cinematic orgasm, the bike chase at the end takes the cake and eats it whole. From the mental slow-mo bridge jump to the stoppie spin and shoot (a stunt that it is possible to match on GTA 5 btw). For the sheer spectacle on the big screen that sequence is my fave of all action movies. More

2 M:I 2 Picks Up Later
its a bit of snooze after the car chase but really wakes up with the bike chase at the end. More

Still can't believe Cruise did those stunts on the Burj Khalifa. I went up it last year, and let me tell you, there's not a thing on God's green Earth that could make me go on the outside of that thing. More

4 RE: The Best Stunts Of The Mission: Impossible Movies
My favourite of the films is by far DePalma's original and I'd have to say that had you put the infiltration of the C.I.A. headquarters in the list it would have sealed my vote. But for sheer scale I've had to go with the Burj Khalifa set piece. It's immense. A nod also to the 3rd film's night-time skyscraper 'slide'. More

5 Stunt vs Film
I definitely have to give the best stunt to the Burj Khalifa climb, as that was sweat-inducing edge of your seat stuff and the fact that he did it himself on the actual building is insane! But my favourite film of the franchise definitely has to be MI:3 - I love JJ Abrams as a director, and the third film is so well paced, and SO tense all the way through because he's trying to save someone he loves. Just awesome! More
