8 Blatantly Misleading Movie Posters The Day The Earth Stood Still
Far from the War Of The Worlds-style apocalypse its one-sheet suggested, Robert Wise's classic sci-fi was a thoughtful cautionary tale. Intergalatic tree-hugger Klaatu appears with an ominous warning for Earthlings: desist from warmongering or face the consequences. The consequences turn out to be Gort, a metallic Peter Crouch armed with a Smash Robot head and a half-arsed taser. He's not giant, he's doesn't destroy armies and there's no massive monkey hand, although the poster does at least get the cast names right. 20th Century Fox were tapping into the Cold War paranoia nearing its peak in 1951, but if you were there for the monkey hand, you'd be pretty peeved.
