The World Is Not Enough

Track: "The World Is Not Enough"

Sung by: Garbage

This is more like it: it feels self-consciously “Bond”, but it’s big and dramatic and mysterious. And hey, it’s sung by a Shirley (more on Ms Bassey later). What's cool and amusing about this is its degree of archness. Manson is playing at being a Bond-theme diva: she's not a karaoke singer that genuinely believes she is one. Awesome, bizarre video too. At first glance it’s got little to do with 007, until you realise that Manson is performing as a manufactured human weapon. Deep, man.

'Another Way to Die' was pretty damn good thought...can't understand why it's universally detested. Didn't like 'You Know My Name' when it appeared on this site years ago but over the years it's become one of my favourites. Still can't beat 'A View to a Kill'. I hate DuranDuran too. Not impressed with Skyfall...too many lyrics rhyming with 'fall' More

3 You lot are all philistines

4 Tomorrow it will be better
There is a much better (and as far as I've read discarded by the Bond people) theme for Tomorrow Never Dies. Apparently EON loved the track but wanted Sheryl Crow to sing it - to which the originating band said: No! Hence we got _that_ Sheryl song and not this Swan Lee version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiTOV6Nu0iw More

5 Wishy-washy
This is not memorable at all, or a grower. I personally like Chris Cornell's 'You Know my Name' and I liked Jack White's 'Another Way to Die'. Of the olds I like 'A View to a Kill' and 'Live and Let Die'. More

8 Memorable?
After hearing Skyfall, can anybody actually remember any of it (except for the actual bond theme underneath it)? The lyrics are empty and soggy, completely devoid of character or wit. The song is just a trail of forgettable motifs and cringeworthy lines. I am afraid that no matter how good the film could be, i will always be dreading sitting through this steaming pile of average (by today's standards), be it in the cinema or on DVD. An unforgivable miss from EON and Adele. More

10 Downfall
I love Adele, but her voice isn't strong enough for this song. Not terribly well sung either. Listen to Diamonds are forever or Nobody does it better. Classy and iconic. Still the films attached to these songs were great too. More

11 Quantum of something
I actually like the Jack White / Alicia Keys duet. I know it's not a popular opinion but it's catchy, a little bit more rock'n roll than usual... I don't understand why people hate it. I do understand why people hate Madonna's Die Another Day though. Or Madonna's whole singing / acting career for that matter. Best Bond song ever ? That would be We Have All the Time in the World and apparently that's the last thing Louis Armstrong ever recorded... More

Duran Duran had already split into their side projects before A View to a Kill. Also, Carly Simon has never had a #1 here. And only You're so Vain went to #1 in the USA. I wonder, seeing as they've criticised it here, if Empire have mentioned them proclaiming Die Another Day as the "Best Bond Ever" on the cover when it was released. More

17 What Empire should do next...
...as a Bond feature. Take a look at all the gun barrel openings through the series. From first three Bob Simmons, to Sean Connery almost tipping over. To Pierce Brosnan shooting stupid cgi-bullet THROUGH the gun barrel - just as idiotic as the rest of the Die Another Day - to Danny Graig running and almost forgetting to shoot at the end of Quantum. Review all of them and give stars! More

Madonna and Lulu the 2 worst ever. Moonraker ain't a good 1 either. Surprised Skyfall is good, despite being by Adele. For Your Eyes Only and Licence To Kill and You Know My Name are my faves More

Sort it out Empire. Drax intended to wipe the population of Earth using a poison gas that would prserve animals and plant-life. Nothing to do with nukes. Sort it arrrtttt!!! More
