10 Great Jack Black Performances JB Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny
Running parallel to Black's movie career, the excellent folk/metal/comedy duo of Tenacious D - the self-proclaimed greatest band in the world - had been going since 1994, with minor success, including a TV show. But they finally took off in 2001, post-Black stardom, when he and fellow member, Kyle Gass, aka KG, released their first album, featuring the classic track, Tribute. Rumours of a film abounded, and finally came The Pick Of Destiny, a riotous, if very uneven, absurdist comedy in which Black and Gass save the world with the power of their awesome rock. Best moment: The opening scene, in which a young JB (voiced by Black) faces off against his puritanical dad (Meat Loaf), with the help of a visitation from the spirit of Ronnie Dio (himself). A glorious pastiche of rock operas, the movie might have been a minor masterpiece if it had stayed in this vein, rather than giving itself over to knob gags and some laboured sequences. Does he sing? What do you think? Standout tracks include the aching ballad, Dude, I Totally Missed You, the protest song The Government Totally Sucks and Master Exploder, a song that will literally blow your mind. None more Black? A vainglorious, swaggering idiot slacker with an ego the size of a small country, who knows - nay, believes - that his music has the power to cure all known illnesses, JB is Black's screen persona turned up to 11. How Black is this? The answer is none… none more Black.

"Although Nacho Libre isn't an entirely successful attempt to blend the innocent appeal of School Of Rock (Mike White wrote both movies) with the off-beat dynamics of Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess directed both)..."
I thought Richard Linklater directed School of Rock?
sp;
Empire are saying Jared Hess directed both Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, not School of Rock & Napoleon Dynamite. Read More
