10 Great Jack Black Performances Billy Glenn Norris Mars Attacks!
A shaven-headed Black makes a memorable impression as the empty-headed, perpetually angry soldier brother of Lukas Haas' wimpy trailer park hero. He's only got a couple of scenes, but with his bullet hairdo, slow Southern drawl and memorable death scene (see below), Billy is the epitome of Burton's subversive view of the trigger-happy US military. Best moment: Under attack by aliens, Billy attempts to fight, but is thwarted when his ammo clip falls out (a neat reference to his intro, when he's seen assembling his gun blindfolded). grabs the US flag and waves it in surrender, the ultimate bastardisation of the Stars'n'Stripes. Needless to say, vaporisation is on the agenda. Does he sing? No, although his death scream sounds to us like a version of some of his Tenacious D scatting. None more Black? Again, this is a restrained performance, more about the character than the persona of the actor. Or he's only on screen for about two minutes, we can't work out which.

Remember this is the guy who did school of rock. One of the finest comedy films of the decade. I enjoy his performances other than tropic thunder where he was pretty rubbish Read More

"Although Nacho Libre isn't an entirely successful attempt to blend the innocent appeal of School Of Rock (Mike White wrote both movies) with the off-beat dynamics of Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess directed both)..."
I thought Richard Linklater directed School of Rock?
sp;
Empire are saying Jared Hess directed both Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, not School of Rock & Napoleon Dynamite. Read More
