Jennifer Hudson Is America's Idol
"Come and get it, Frank"
1933 One of the saddest and most embarrassing moments in Oscar history came when the winner of Best Director was announced in 1933. As presenter Will Rogers read the name Frank, Frank Capra rose to collect the prize for Lady For A Day. It was only when he was halfway to the stage that Capra realised the winner was actually Frank Lloyd for Cavalcade.
Anna Paq-wins
1994 Anybody under the age of eighteen is usually just making up the cute-faced numbers in the acting categories. Anna Paquin went and surprised everybody by winning for her supporting role in The Piano. Any reservations that an accent that dodgy shouldn't have been rewarded were melted by her charmingly stunned gaping at the podium.
The Longest Show On Earth
2002 "This show is going to be long". Whoopi Goldberg never said truer words than in 2002, when the audience had to wait over 4 hours and 17 minutes for A Beautiful Mind to be crowned Best Picture. Jack Nicholson's buttocks have reportedly never woken up properly since.
Jennifer Hudson Is America's Idol
2007 It was the equivalent of Hear'Say winning a Nobel Peace Prize. In the space of one year, Jennifer Hudson went from being a distantly remembered also-ran on talent show American Idol to Oscar winner for her turn in Dreamgirls. Michelle McManus reported to have been considered "robbed".
