Driving Me Crazy
Just Jack
This doesn't relate to any specific year, but for years the Oscars have not felt complete without Jack Nicholson sat proudly in the front row. Whether or not he's nominated doesn't matter; those sunglasses and the sly smirk are a reassurance that at least something interesting might happen this evening. It's just not the same without him.
Worst Opening Ever
1987 Next time an Oscar musical number falls a little flat, count yourself lucky that you didn't see the 1987 ceremony. As if Goldie Hawn, Chevy Chase and Paul 'Crocodile Dundee' Hogan presenting wasn't weird enough, the opening 'Guys and Dolls' themed skit employed the singing talents of Telly Savalas, Pat Morita and Dom Deluise.
Awwwwww
2007 The 79th ceremony enjoyed a big 'awwwww' moment when Abigail Breslin and Jaden Smith charmingly giggled their way through their job of presenting the awards for Best Animated Short and Best Live Action Short. Short, geddit? Because they're little.
Driving Me Crazy
1990 The Best Picture line up in 1990 wasn't a list of classics, but Born on the Fourth of July, Field of Dreams or My Left Foot would have all been less surprising than the victory of Driving Miss Daisy. The film has now become the most cited instance of Oscar getting it wrong.
