The Graph Of Manliness: Gerard Butler
Just how butch is Glasgow's favourite Spartan?

As wide as two normal men and built like a house, Gerard Butler is everyone's favourite sword-wielding Scot... but he's got a soft side too - a really soft side (PS I Love You, anyone?). With the imminent arrival of the gunfest Gamer, we've used a complicated system of guesswork and personal opinion to create a graph of the manliness of Mr Butler's recent films, marked out of ten.

Graph Of Manliness: Gerard Butler

Graph Of Manliness: Gerard Butler | Dracula 2000 Dracula 2000
Points for:
Being the Prince Of Darkness; having a big booming voice; killing people; disappearing in a puff of bats. It's worth noting that he has lots of vampire sex with girls, which is nice.
Points against:
Having long girly hair doesn't do him any favours, and the make-up isn't very Gerry. Also, where's the complimentary Butler beard? Tsk, tsk. What's worse, he doesn't kill anywhere near enough people, and too few things explode.

ok personally i loved Gerald butler from the first movie i saw him...that was dracula 2000. he had me. his accent was gorgeous and i want surprised that he kept getting better movie roles. so to the point of manliness 300 is by far the most macho movie ever made and still cant believe that was his body in that movies, spartan indeed. but yes he has a soft side why not every actors fear is being type cast and only bein known to playing on character so u go Gerald...from a musical, to pure action, down to romantic comedy...thats as versatile as he can get. ugly truth seems a bit of stretch though. thats story line has been done too many fucking times but gerald butler is a Man's Man all the way.... You missed a few entries. Dear Frankie, one of his best movies. Two TV projects, The Jury - amazing, and Attila - lots of carnage, horseback riding, and romantic bare chest scenes. Can't wait for Law Abiding Citizen, which should definitely bump up has manly rating, by your standards anyway. I agree with 99% of the viewers. He was awesome in 300. But I think Beowulf was my favourite. He was mesmerizing in that movie. Also totally agree that he was HOT as the Phantom. And heartbreaking. Read More

- Allowing skanky harpy jennifer aniston to get her claws into you, -200 manliness points. Edit: and 300 was gayer than mardi gras and the Rio carnivale combined, and therefore only hurts the 'manliness' of anyone associated with it Read More

Has he had sex with effin' Kelly Brook in real life?... No? Well then he's still 500% less manly than Jason Statham. Read More

8 THOR!
Posted on Saturday September 19, 2009, 15:11 by aka_sammym
I know its a bit of type casting, but the pic of Gerry as Beowulf looks perfect for the part of Thor. He would have been a brilliant, but obvious bit of casting as the god of thunder Read More

He's not from Glasgow. Yes he was born there, but he moved to paisley 10 miles away after he was born which is the home town of Tom Conti and David Tennant. I went to school with gerard, even played football with him at school, both support the same footballl team, he regards himself from paisley not glasgow Read More

He was in Dracula 2000? Okay, my mind blanked for a minute. Defense mechanism. Didn't recognize him in that one. I love his acting and his voice. Give him a break, people. Don't mind about the spoilers; I already knew all that stuff anyway. Read More

15 Things I've Learnt About Gerard Butler
Posted on Thursday September 17, 2009, 17:44 by Sweet Caroline
1) Gerard Butler is very good at playing hard motherf*%£ers 2) The man cannot do accents (PS I Love You was a baaad film made 11% worse by his atrocious, and pointless, Oirish 'lilt') 3) My sister saw him on the street and said he was very handsome, and gracious to fans (especially the 14 year old I'm-too-cool looking emo kid who actually hugged him). 16 Thank You Empire!

Slightly biased here but I totally loved this feature! Without doubt, 300 is his toughest role and perhaps Gamer when I go to see it on Saturday. I got all of those films apart from Gamer, The Ugly Truth and Law Abiding Citizen, they will be mine when they come out. He's just sexy in all those roles, dosen't really matter to me. He's a brilliant and damn hot actor, I can't wait for more movies he will appear in. Read More

17 What's with the spoilers, Empire?
Posted on Thursday September 17, 2009, 17:00 by Youshouldberunning
He sleeps with Katherine Heigl in Ugly Truth? Oh my god, I would never have believed that film would end up like that! Truly, I mean Jeez. AND he gets out from under the control of the boy in Gamer? Why ruin it for me? I was looking forward to a film where Gerry plays along nicely with everything he is told to do, and now you tell me he fights back?! Well. Thanks Empire, thanks a lot. Read More

As far as I recall the couple weren't purely innocent, nor did they 'accept him into their care'. The film is only 25 minutes long - it wouldn't have hurt to do the research. Read More
