System Shock

Original Story: A convicted hacker earns a free pass by reprogramming the AI on a military space station. Things are unexpected side-effects though and the station's newly malevolent persona, Shodan, goes all Hal on the unsuspecting crew.

Movie Treatment: Suspense and terror are the keys to bringing System Shock to life. The game itself could make you leap out of your skin so a movie adaptation has no excuse for not pushing all the right buttons. Event Horizon with touches of 2001, this might really work - but only if they use the same Shodan voice actress they have in the game, complete with eerie feedback effects. "l-l-l-look at you hacker…a pah-pathetic creature of flesh and b-bone, sweating and panting as you r-r-run through my corridors." Creepy.

Guaranteed Crowdpleaser: The discovery of the hydroponics pods where Shodan has been trying her hand at genetic engineering. Mutants ahoy!
