Fashion Designers On Film The creators of couture who also dabble in costume...
With Coco Before Chanel now in cinemas, looking at the younger days of a fashion legend, we thought we'd look at some other designers on film - or at least, designers who have contributed to film. So here are a few of the best efforts by the world's most recognisable names for some fabulously well-dressed movies. WORDS EMILY PHILLIPS
Fashion Designers On Film Jean-Paul Gaultier The Fifth Element
Gaultier has designed clothes for many films, notably including Robert Altman's fashion satire Pret A Porter, but it's in this wonderfully silly sci-fi epic that his imagination was given full rein. From a jumpsuit made of a couple of bandages to ripped tuxedo shirts ("You've never seen a ripped shirt till you've seen a shirt ripped by Gaultier"), it's all gold. The film's costumiers, awed by Gaultier's involvement, went to extreme lengths to recreate his designs exactly, even in costumes only glimpsed for a moment - something which somewhat bemused Gaultier himself.

Cool. Read More

... that the not so famous, but nonetheless very talented British tailors who have influenced a number of legendary movie characters haven't been mentioned in the list. My top votes would go to Anthony Sinclair, who created the original James Bond look together with Terence Young, and Douglas Hayward, who gave The Italian Job's Charlie Crocker his Swinging Sixties style.
