Mr. Fox's Fantastic Sets
In The Puppet Studio
This Mr. Fox was one of 535 puppets painstaking crafted by Corpse Bride veteran Andy Gent and his team at the 'puppet hospital'. And painstaking is the word. "We did 27 skulls for Mr. Fox's head alone until we found the one Wes liked," says Gent. "When we started the process Mr. Fox took several months to perfect, but as we made 15 more we got quicker and could shoot 20 foxes on different sets at the same time." Without its fur, the model Mr. Fox could almost pass for a T-800: its internal armature was engineered by Manchester model-makers Mackinnon & Saunders and enabled the animators to move it one frame at a time. If you're wondering why Mr. Fox's brown corduroy suit feels like it might belong to Wes Anderson himself, it's because it did. "Mr. Fox's suit fabric was from Wes' own suit - the one he liked was the one he owned, so we had to find his tailors in New York. That's how close he gets to the puppets, there are bits of him actually attached to them!"
