Mr. Fox's Fantastic Sets
Ash's bedroom
Like Richie Tenenbaum with a tail, yoga-practising cousin Kristofferson (Eric Chase Anderson) has prodigious gifts that get up the snout of Mr. Fox's insecure young son Ash (Jason Schwartzman). In this scene the two cease hostilities to reflect on the Hornby-like magic of Ash's model railway. "I love this set, there's something really intimate about it," production designer Nelson Lowry tells us. "It's an animals den, but we all recognise it as a kid's bedroom." Lowry and director worked together to build a world that was true to Dahl's vision but, at the same time, unmistakably Wes Anderson. "We looked over thousands of props and that richness comes through. Nothing's accidental." Look out for another appearance by that model helicopter later in the movie. And one of the books on the tiny shelves? Fantastic Mr. Fox. Now that's meta.
