Schwag Spotlight: Avatar Character And Alien Toys Revealed
Posted on Thursday July 23, 2009, 11:10 by Amar Vijay

There's a spectacular assortment of schwag on offer at the Comic-Con and it takes an almost Herculean act of wilpower not to mortgage your house, children and internal organs in order to drum up the cash to buy it all. Still, if you can't own every collector's artefact the Con has to offer you can always covet them from afar. Here begins the first of our Schwag Spotlights, showcasing all the exciting items available at the Con so you can see exactly what you're missing.

First up, the official tie-in toys from James Cameron's Avatar. Stalking the halls of Comic-Con, we were surprised to find that the first ever shot of Sigourney Weaver in Avatar would be on display in a cabinet on the box of her action figure. But sure enough, here is the first look at Dr. Grace Augustine. See the full gallery after the jump.

There's something quite pleasingly retro about those toys. Exactly the kind of thing I'd have played with when I was a kid. I much prefer toys designed to be played with, rather than posed next to a monitor...

(looks at mini-diorama of Galvatron and Jango Fett having a fight on PC base unit)

Anyway, I'd still buy one of those tomorrow. Probably the walker. Maybe the jeep.

I'm so getting one without doubt, if there is one with Sam Worthington's character that has my name on it. I really can't wait for this film, it's on my films to must see at the cinema and it will be a hit for all. The wait is unbearable, we need a tralier or some sort NOW!

I like the way the military hardware design makes it look like it's happening in the same universe or time period as Aliens. I mean the 'Scorpion' is like a mini drop ship and that suit's like a power lifter, right?

- With the exception of the alien animals, the other toys are right out
of James Cameron's past movies. The combat mecha is a cross
between the cargo mech from "Aliens" (1986) and the Scorpion
warcopter could be a manned version of the Skynet attack fighter
fron "Terminator" (1984). The Banshee looks like the spitting
dinosaur from "Jurassic Park" (1993). Looks like a winner of a
movie, though. A new generation is about to be exposed to one
of the greatest directors of our time.
