2. The James Bond Theme
From: Dr. No (1962)
Performed by: The Monty Norman Orchestra

Although there's been much debate over the origin of the James Bond theme (Monty Norman wrote it; John Barry was responsible for the classic arrangement), there can be little doubt that it's one of the most iconic and well-known pieces of music in film history. And it's been successful not just because it's inherently hummable, but because it's perfectly suited to Bond's characteristics. Like the man himself, it's at times languid (the laidback opening bars), dangerous and sexy (that drilling guitar riff) and passionate (that explosive brass climax). It's been oft-imitated but never bettered.

Best lyrics: Dum dum dum dum dum, dum dum de dum, de dum dum.
