3. Live And Let Die
From: Live And Let Die (1971)
Performed by: Paul McCartney & Wings
Before Ringo went and married The Spy Who Loved Me's Barbara Bach, this was the closest association between a Beatle and Bond. But Paul McCartney's bouncy, catchy and surprisingly propulsive track remains the finest Bond theme of the Moore era. It's perhaps most effective because it's not a retread of the brass-laden Bassey wannabes or noodling ballads that had littered Bond's canon. Instead, McCartney's tune echoes the quiet-quiet-LOUD pattern of the Bond theme itself - it starts with a drifting, dreamy feel before changing gears suddenly for the pounding, screaming chorus as Macca shows off his pipes to great effect. Still better than Guns'n'Roses' version.
Best lyrics: "What does it matter to ya? When you got a job to do, you gotta do it well. You gotta give the other fella HELL!" The high- pitched screaming bit that always catches people out when singing along."
