5. Goldeneye
From: Goldeneye (1995)
Performed by: Tina Turner
There was a lot of pressure riding on this - the first Bond theme in six years. But when the pressure is on, you can do a lot worse than call upon Bono and The Edge to write a ditty for Tina Turner - perhaps the only singer who could out-Bassey Shirley Bassey - to warble. OK, the lyrics of the song, which appears to be from the POV of Alec Trevelyan's vengeful 006, are a bit iffy, but the sultry intro and restrained brass work perfectly with Turner's sexy snarl. A note-perfect updating of the Bond theme ethos for the Nineties, this has become something of an Empire karaoke night favourite. You haven't lived until you've heard James Dyer get his Tina Turner on.
Best lyrics: "You'll never know how I watched you from the shadows as a child/You'll never know how it feels to get so close and be denied/ It's a gold and honey trap I've got for you tonight/Revenge is a kiss, this time I wont miss/Now I've got you in my sights."
