8. Nobody Does It Better
From: The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
Performed by: Carly Simon

Breaking with tradition, this was the first Bond theme not to share a name with the film it was commissioned for. (Although the lyrics do contain the words 'The Spy Who Loved Me') Simon's piano-led track is a belter, though, a celebration of Bond's prowess (primarily in the sack, we imagine), segueing from a playful intro to a full-blooded power ballad chorus and outro complete with soaring strings that so impressed Radiohead, of all bands, that they famously covered it in the 90s. Bond's so vain, he probably thinks this song is about him.

Best lyrics: "But like heaven above me / The spy who loved me / Is keepin' all my secrets safe tonight"
