22. Michael Billington
Nearly Bond in: Live and Let Die, Octopussy
Billington screentested several times, and was very nearly Bond. Instead, he landed a small part in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) while Roger Moore took the lead.

23. Burt Reynolds
Nearly Bond in: Live and Let Die
Popular at the time, Reynolds met with producers who decided that he was too short, and that again, they weren't sure about an American in the lead.

24. Pierce Brosnan
Nearly Bond in: The Living Daylights
Thought by many to be a shoo-in for the role, US TV network NBC skewered Brosnan's chances, by reviving his flagging series Remington Steele for one more season at the last minute. NBC said they would allow Brosnan to film Bond in the summer, but Broccoli refused, saying James Bond cannot be Remington Steele, and Remington Steele cannot be James Bond. As an added kick in the face, NBC cancelled Remington Steele again the following year.
