19. John Gavin
Nearly Bond in: Diamonds Are Forever, Live and Let Die
John Gavin actually was James Bond: he had signed on the dotted line to appear in the film, until producers paid a then astronomical $1.5 Million to Sean Connery to return as 007. Gavin was paid his full contracted rate and released. He was again considered for Live and Let Die, even though he was American.
20. Michael Gambon
Nearly Bond in: Diamonds Are Forever
Michael "Dumbledore" Gambon apparently told Saltzman 'I'm out of shape and I have tits like a woman' but auditioned anyway. He was finally turned down because they didn't want another unknown actor in the lead.
21. Julian Glover
Nearly Bond in: Live and Let Die
Glover was not chosen as Bond, but must have impressed the producers anyway: he ended up appearing as the villain Kristatos in For Your Eyes Only.
