12. Timothy Dalton
Nearly Bond in: On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Octopussy
Dalton had impressed Cubby Broccoli with his debut screen performance in The Lion in Winter, but turned down Bond as he felt he was too young. He nearly had the part in the bag for Octopussy in 1983, but producers rallied to get Roger Moore back again, in order to compete with Sean Connery's return for Never Say Never Again. Dalton had to wait until 1987 for his shot.
13. Jeremy Brett
Nearly Bond in: On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Live and Let Die
Brett was briefly considered for OHMSS, and actually auditioned for Live and Let Die, but had to content himself with the equally iconic role of Sherlock Holmes on TV throughout the 1980s.
14. John Richardson
Nearly Bond in: On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Famous for getting it on with Raquel Welch and her over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder in One Million Years B.C., Richardson was briefly considered to replace Sean Connery, but lost out to George Lazenby.
