1. Cary Grant
Nearly Bond in: Dr. No
Supposedly one of the main inspirations for Ian Fleming when he was creating his debonair superspy, Grant turned down the role because he believed he was too old at 58.

2. Steve Reeves
Nearly Bond in: Dr. No
Reeves was a famous bodybuilder and former Mr. Universe who gained worldwide fame as Hercules in Italian sword-and-sandal epics. Saltzman and Brocolli considered him for his fame, not for his ability, and then only briefly.

3. Patrick MacGoohan
Nearly Bond in: Dr. No and Live and Let Die
Number 6 himself was considered for 007, for the first time in 1962. He had lost out the part of another super-spy, The Saint, to Roger Moore, and would again lose out to Moore in Live and Let Die.

4. Trevor Howard
Nearly Bond in: Dr. No
A prolific British actor, Howard played Captain Bligh in The Mutiny on The Bounty the same year Dr. No was released. He had the talent as an actor, but possibly not the sex appeal.
