Renee Mathis Bond was introduced to Mathis on his arrival to Montenegro, as his confident and liason, Mathis supplied Bond with all the intel on Le Chiffre and the poker game, as well as watching his back. When Le Chiffre captures Bond he lets slip that 'your friend Mathis, is actually my friend Mathis', and Bond has him arrested and taken away by MI6. In the trailer for Quantum of Solace, we see Bond and Mathis talking, with Bond saying 'you're the only person I can trust' - so expect that to be explained and for Mathis' true allegiances to be revealed.
