The Notebook Sequels Do you get a bit teary whenever you see Rachel McAdams or Ryan Gosling and remember that they are no longer a couple? Do you secretly long to be kissed in the pouring rain? If you answered yes to either of these, chances are that you're a fan of The Notebook, the adaptation of the Nicolas Sparks novel that proved a massive hit in 2004. But with two more Sparks films headed our way this spring, you could be in for a treat.
Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried in Dear John
First up is Dear John on APRIL 16, starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried as the young lovers cruelly separated when his service in the Army calls him away. Judging by the trailer, this is followed by endless shots of her sitting on a beach looking out to sea, and endless shots of him in a tent clutching letters from her, both looking as anguished as a big-haired vampire about the whole thing.
Sparks is again behind APRIL 30's The Last Song, the Miley Cyrus-starring tale of a rebellious teen sent to spend the summer with her estranged father in a beach community - where they reconnect through a shared love of music, yawn. According to the poster it's "a story about family, first loves, second chances, and the moments in life that lead you back home", which sounds dreadful. But given that Cyrus seems to be responsible for every fashion trend among the under 16 crowd in the last 5 years, expect this to be big.
And finally on MAY 21 is a film that isn't actually anything to do with Nicolas Sparks himself but still falls into the romantic drama category so it's kinda with him in spirit: Letters To Juliet. This also stars Seyfried, this time as a woman visiting Verona and finds a letter addressed to Juliet on the balcony that purportedly belonged to the romantic heroine, and sets off the find the lovers it refers to. The trailer contained as much travelogue schmaltz as the whole of Roman Holiday, so if this doesn't have us sobbing into our hankies at the sheer romance / tragedy of it all, we'll be very disappointed.
