33 Of Film's Best Best Friends | Thelma and Louise
Thelma and Louise

As seen in: Thelma & Louise (1991)

Played by: Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon

Hangers on / third wheel: Very briefly J.D. (Brad Pitt) but mainly Detective Hal Slocumb (Harvey Keitel)

Defining moment of friendship:

“Let’s not get caught.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Let’s keep going.”

It's a strange fact, but true, that some of the best portrayals of women in modern Hollywood have come from the manliest of directors, such as James Cameron and, in this case, Ridley Scott. As this pair's innocent vacation turns into something more and more violent, they seem perversely more alive and more together than they did before. As they take their final decision and hold hands, it's one of the great emotional moments in cinema history. You'll be torn between crying and standing up and cheering.

1 RE: What about Merry and Pippin?
They definitely should! Sam and Frodo, Merry and Pippin and Gimli and Legolas! They all have amazing friendships! And i know Frodo was under the influence of the ring but he was still a bit of a dick to Sam towards the end! I've never been able to forgive him for making Sam cry! That is unacceptable to me! But Merry and Pippin's friendship is definitely the sweetest! More

10 SIDEWAYS
Great list but very sad not to see my favourite movie friends Miles and Jack from Sideways. They complete each-other perfectly and the fact they've been friends since young men is so gently and honestly conveyed. More

Thank you for recognizing that Ocean's 12 has great character work. To me, it more than overshadows the strange heist in the movie and yes, Julia Roberts as Tess as Julia Roberts. More

I know you've got Jay and Silent Bob, but surely Dante and Randal deserve inclusion too? Randal's speechifying in the jail at the end of Clerks II is one of the greatest bits of bromantic cinema ever. More
