The scenes where the creature thing is chasing Jake and the opening sequence and those realism of those eyes in Dimensional Real 3D is unbelievable.
Maybe lightning will strike twice... These haters are ridicolous. Most of them proably didnt even see the 3D screening(Thats the way to see Avatar)
And if they read up on the thing, there are two versions of Avatar visuals. THey arent even finished tthe overall SFX...
Brillant, reminds me of when I first saw JP, and SWs 77...Except this feels bigger!!!
Much Bigger.
Folks only see this in a Digital real 3D Theater... And I guarantee no film comes close for giving you a true jaw dropping experience. I mean folks were sweating in sequences only 8 mins long lol.

| 2 | RE: Avatar Teaser Trailer Breakdown |
| Posted on Monday August 24, 2009, 16:53 by absolutmark |
But underwhelmed by the whole thing really. I was expecting something that merged cgi with live action and didn't look like one of the TV spots for a new console game (Halo 3, Gears of War). when cameron said we wouldn't be able to tell the difference between what was real and what was cgi I assumed the computer stuff would be ultra real, Instead, the live action stuff looking more like a computer game. After seeing the trailer it looks like it's going to animation with a bit of live action interspersed, so now a can lower my expectations. I just hope I don't walk away with the same feeling of the CGI being overdone like I did with the Star Wares prequels. Read More

| 6 | From the 3d Preview Screening |
| Posted on Sunday August 23, 2009, 23:24 by CiaranHowley |
Hmmmm... ok guys, here's my two cents.
I saw the preview screening before I saw the trailer and I have to say that the trailer doesn't do it justice.
3D aside I think it looks like a very solid sci-fi film with the kind of full-out worlds we've read about in books/ seen in games but haven't seen too much on the big screen.
Whats sets it apart though (imo) is that the 3d just makes it all so intense. There's a scene where the main guys gets chased by the big rat-lizard thing and lasts about 5 minutes... I was exhausted after it! This is a film that just won't let you switch off.
The story/setting/visual effects on their own won't revolutionise cinema but no-one has done 3d this well before and that is what is making it stand out.
It may not be the best film ever, maybe not even close, but it's going to be one hell of an experience. Read More

When it comes to using visual effects in this highly anticipated film, most of you have set your expectations too high and yes, i was a bit disappointed at first but the V/F shouldn't matters as long as there will be a lot of action sequences that I'm sure of will make my mouth open and say, "Can't believe what I'm seeing!". But whenever it comes to the story, I'm sure that the Master of Science Fiction will impress us once again as he always know what to. Shame on you for doubting him and it's only a trailer so how can you say it's not good or not bad. Just wait until the end of the film and I have no doubt that James Cameron will have directed the greatest sci-fi film of all time and one of the greatest ever. So relax and wait for the months to fly. Thanks for reading Read More

Like many, I am worried that this might not live up to the hype. That said, apart from pirahna 2, I have yet to see a bad Cameron movie. This trailer showed enough to me to suggest that this will be a great film. Lets not forget that cameron is a master of the 'war' in space movie. The thing that did dissapoint was that I saw nothing here other than well polished CGI, but certainly nothing that suggests a film making revolution. However in defense, this is the first full live action movie to intigrate the new 3 d technology, so things could be very different when you put the glasses on, just think: overhead space explosions and ships flying overhead, it could be amazing. Finally for the doubters, don't forget that cameron is one of the Grandfathers of action films whilst maintaining excellent characters, it's not just about the effects for him, unlike Lucas. Oddly, upon first viewing of the trailer yesterday, I thought it looked too George Lucasy and hated it. This is partly because I, like many others hold Aliens and Terminator in such high esteem... But having settled with it, and realised that there is no other way to tell such a story I've since embraced it, and am now back on track with my Avatar relationship...
Besides the thing we hate about the Star Wars prequels is that the story is tosh, so in theory could be great.

Think it looks good. Some of the CG looks great in HD and will no doubt look better in the cinema. I do think however that cameron has spent all this time developing a new way to film which enhances the film making process but does not overly enhance the actual viewing experience. Could be wrong so will wait to see it in the cinema before offering an opinion on if it meets the hype. have to say though i am impressed by the trailer. Read More

The key thing from the movie-con footage was not the CG backgrounds/beasties (though they were cool), it was how good the performance capture was. Mo-capped performances have come close to looking real (Gollum, for example) but never quite make it. But the scene at Movie-Con showed (to me at least) that this wasn't a mo-capped CG face, it was Sigourney Weaver. Who, oh yes, just happened to be a big blue cat.
Ultimately it's a James Cameron war-in-space movie with battle mechs, flying mountains and psychic dragons. I'll be there opening night. Read More

Generally in agreement with all of these comments - a bit underwhelming in terms of the whole "heralding a new age in cinema". The CGI looks great, I'd like to see more human character arcs and the whole vision of the machines/war etc looks well realised.....but its not a great leap (or arguably any leap) from numerous other well conceived and executed sci-fi movies. Still holding opinion for seeing this footage in 3d though, hopefully that will add a new dimension (pun intended) to the film.
However.....in one respect I would say that this whole trailer release/Avatar day marketing ploy has been a massive success. Number 1 reading the feedback to the trailer it has succeeded in a way Phantom Menace never did till release day, it has dampened expectations for the second coming in film form, something that was never going to happen. For me the film was doomed to be a failure if it followed typical film marketing as it would never, ever meet the expectations of most people. ThRead More

I think cameron is very clever and has made this film for a new generation! And to people who say the effects seem crap I say, don't forget there's still 4 months till the films release so things can improve massively plus seeing it on a small screen is a whole world away from experiencing it on a massive screen in 3D. ...on reflection, after a disappointing viewing of the trailer, I have a hunch that this film will truely shine in the 3D cinema. I am still hoping that James Cameron has an ace up his sleeve, and will showcase his own take on how to make a 3D movie. 3D i've seen so far has been ok, but nobody seems to have grasped it and pushed it to it's limits. I have to say I'm slightly underwhelmed by this trailer, its got some really pretty CGI but i wouldn't call it ground breaking. It looks absolutely beautiful, and I think one of the most underrated elements of the trailer is the music... the pounding, incessant, almost Argento-esque soundtrack gives the whole thing a really portentous vibe.
My one concern with this film is that, from the Papyrus logo down to the wood-elf-like aliens, the whole thing is a bit New-Agey... it's got a real Dances With Wolves vibe to it at the moment, with Sam's Avatar having to go through these rituals to become accepted by a more sacred and spiritual tribe than his own warring race.
