The A To Z Of Richard Curtis | Yanks

Beautifully manicured Americans are regulars in Curtis's films, popping up to make us feel bad about our wonky teeth, drizzly weather and vast array of sports we created but aren't always that good at. Andie MacDowell, Julia Roberts, Renée Zellweger, Rachel McAdams and, to a lesser extent, Billy Bob Thornton have crossed the ditch to lend their Yankee charms to his none-more-English settings, returning home well-versed in our foibles. But the suggestion that Curtis crowbars Americans into his movies to get traction at the US box office rankles a little. "I sometimes think, 'But what about all those English directors who ONLY make movies in which every single person in the film is American?'"
