Wet Wet Wet

Wait! Don't go. Humour us and pretend it's 1994 for a minute. Wet Wet Wet are everywhere with their Troggs cover 'Love Is All Around', Four Weddings And A Funeral's theme and a UK number one for a 15-week period that felt more like 15 years. Whatever your thoughts on the cheeky Scottish songsters' tune, Curtis's passion for music and ear for a tune has parlayed into iPod-friendly soundtracks. Pop music is a Curtis staple that he's written to (Everything But The Girl's 'Downtown Train' and 'Into My Arms' by Nick Cave with About Time), celebrated and distilled into his films. "I don't want to compare myself to these people at all," he explained of The Boat That Rocked's inspirations, "but I think I'm trying to reproduce the feelings I had while listening to Madness or ABBA or The Beatles or The Kinks – that sense you get in pop music of high spirits and elevation and joy and things working out." He's done that in spades – even if he's yet to find a home for his beloved Waterboys on screen.
