The A To Z Of Richard Curtis | Quixotic

[[quix•ot•ic: exceedingly idealistic; unrealistic; the correlation between Will's likely income in Notting Hill and the size of his flat]]
When it comes to the oft-cheery worldview of Richard Curtis's movies, one critic's warmly-hued comic wonderland has been another's saccharine fantasy. Love Actually has been the critics' favourite chew toy. "You'd have to be Ebenezer Scrooge not to walk out smiling," USA Today effused of the 2003 rom-com, while across the newsstand Premiere was grimacing that watching it was akin to "being force-fed 30 pounds of crème brûlée". Slate's judgment that "The Bard Of Embarrassment could use a touch more shame" was one of the more temperate verdicts. Sugary it may have been, but moviegoers were smitten to the tune of $246 million, which is one massive crème brûlée.
