The A To Z Of Richard Curtis | Krafayis
K
Krafayis

Legendary writers have put words in The Doctor's mouth through his decades, Neil Gaiman and Douglas Adams among them. The opportunity for Curtis to follow suit came, strangely, from a Who spoof, The Curse Of Fatal Death, which he'd enlisted Steven Moffat to write for Comic Relief. A decade later Moffat returned the favour, inviting Curtis to write Vincent And The Doctor, a Doctor Who episode in which His Timelordiness met Vincent van Gogh and did battle with some space-faring omnivorous beasties called the Krafayis. Curtis, drawn more to the story's great-but-unheralded artist more than the sci-fi elements, favourably compares the 45-minute format with film scripting. "With this, he's gotta meet van Gogh really quickly, then there's got to be monsters and some battles, and then it's the end," he enthuses. "It's fun."
