The A To Z Of Richard Curtis
Four weddings, a funeral, a horse, a hound and a whole lot of Bernards

submit to reddit

Richard Curtis's career has been an often hilarious realm of fumbly romantic heroes, dimbulb sidekicks, sarky Elizabethan courtiers, lady vicars, Timelords, talking gorillas, Armstrong Whitworth cannonettes ("for years of trouble-free maiming") and a small, malodorous man called Baldrick. As one of Britain's foremost creative forces over the past 30 years, it's sad to learn that his return with time-travelling romance About Time may also be his last as a director, but at least it's the perfect excuse to embark on a time (and alphabet-) spanning creation of our own, with a little help from Blackadder's producer, the editorial team of Horse & Hound and the man himself. Welcome ladies, gentlemen and plump-breasted pigeons to Empire's A-Z of Richard Curtis.

The A To Z Of Richard Curtis | Actually
A
Actually

Not just the most Christmassy and possibly the most polarising of all rom-coms, Richard Curtis's Love Actually has also spawned a jillion or so homages, parodies and rip-offs. If you found its joys a little sugary, you might want to avoid A Very Glee Christmas and the tie-in 'Glee Christmas Album', a record that makes Alvin & The Chipmunks' yuletide LP sound like Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd. Then, and less in the happily-ever-after spirit of Richard Curtis's comedy, is CSI: NY's 'Blood Actually', in which three love stories all end with Gary Sinise scribbling things in his notebook. There's also 'Sex Actually', an episode of The Comic Strip Presents... which riffs vaguely on its saucier elements, and for 'Actually' completists, a short flick called Zombie Actually to hunt down. Wake us up when Actually Actually happens.
