The A To Z Of Michael Mann Public Enemies sees the return of Michael Mann with a typically stylish and finely-detailed gangster epic . To mark its release we've embarked an alphabetic jaunt through the tropes and traits that make him one of cinema's true auteurs. Welcome to Mikepedia.
"You know," says Al Pacino’s Vincent Hanna, sitting across a coffee table from Robert De Niro’s Neil McCauley, "we’re sitting here, you and I, like a couple of regular fellas..." But, of course, both men know that they’re not just a couple of regular fellas. In their own ways, they’re both hunters, a regular aspect of Mann’s movies. His heroes are restless existentialists, non-conformists, who often dedicate their entire lives, at great personal cost, to searching for… something. Will Graham, Melvin Purvis and Hanna search for criminals. McCauley searches for happiness and the buzz of the job. Hawkeye searches for his lost love. Lowell Bergman searches for the truth. And, as Pseuds Corner as this might seem, each of them searches for an identity, for a feeling that they belong in a world into which they don’t entirely fit.

Not a big fan of the Mann, whilst Heat, Collateral, The Insider & Manhunter are all great, Ali, Miami Vice (whichis a terrible, terrible movie) and Public Enemies really aren't all that, they are slow, dull and unfufilling. All well made, but just not all that great. Read More
