The A To Z Of Michael Bay | Got Milk

Got Milk

Michael Bay didn't come up with the famous "Got Milk?" slogan; that was advertising firm Sterling Cooper Goodby Silverstein & Partners. But Bay did direct the first ever Got Milk TV ad, one that won a raft of advertising awards and proved one of the most popular ads of its day. A well-crafted little comic riff starring Sean Whalen (a character actor you might recognise from Twister or Never Been Kissed), it's a far cry from Bay's usual style - which might be why he reportedly considered the ad "pretty dumb" as he was doing it. After all, what's the point of a brief gag about a history buff losing out on a huge cash prize just because he doesn't have a glass of milk? There's no obvious room in there for scantily clad women or sunsets or slo-mo. Still, Bay's work did the job assigned and made the slogan one of the most recognisable ad lines in the world.

L: JensonJet I don't know why people have a problem with Bay's films. You know what you're getting, so surely you just avoid them if they're not for you. They're generally excellent popcorn, action flicks. There are some I didn't care for, some I though were rubbish and some I thought were really good. Transformers isn't aimed at my age group, so I watched the first (missed the first twenty minutes, and still have never seen it) and found it watchable enough. I was too old to have grown up with the toys but I didn't find the movie half as offensive as many action films. I actually think Bay have a very good eye for framing shots, angles, etc, and I'm happy to watch a film that's fast-edited. I think he's more than capable of making a calmer, less action orientated movie, but he enjoys making the films he makes, they're successful and millions seem to enjoy his work, so long may it continue. re generally a dumb, throwaway form of entertainment.
