X-tremely High Box Office

Overly the course of Michael Bay's career, his movies have clocked up $3 billion worldwide. That's approximately a HUGE amount of money. To give this number a weird form of context, the GDP of the world's smallest independent country (excluding Monaco and the Vatican City) is $36.9 million. That's the island republic of Nauru, a country that makes its money from selling high quality bird droppings (no joke) - and Michael Bay's career is heading to earn 100 times that. Holy crap indeed. His biggest individual earners so far have, of course, been the Transformers series (the original cost $150 million and earned $709 million; the sequel hauled in $836 million off a $200 million outlay) - but that doesn't mean his less expensive outings haven't done well. The Rock cost "just" $75 million, but still raked in over four times that. Even his "flop", The Island, made £162m. Say what you like about the man - and God knows you will - but he makes money. Big money.

L: JensonJet I don't know why people have a problem with Bay's films. You know what you're getting, so surely you just avoid them if they're not for you. They're generally excellent popcorn, action flicks. There are some I didn't care for, some I though were rubbish and some I thought were really good. Transformers isn't aimed at my age group, so I watched the first (missed the first twenty minutes, and still have never seen it) and found it watchable enough. I was too old to have grown up with the toys but I didn't find the movie half as offensive as many action films. I actually think Bay have a very good eye for framing shots, angles, etc, and I'm happy to watch a film that's fast-edited. I think he's more than capable of making a calmer, less action orientated movie, but he enjoys making the films he makes, they're successful and millions seem to enjoy his work, so long may it continue. re generally a dumb, throwaway form of entertainment. Bay undeRead More
