The Z To A Of Christopher Nolan
Your guide to the Dark Knight Rises director's career so far...

We can think of no greater honour for the man who turned our brains the round way around with Memento than to spin Empire's traditional A To Z on its head as part of our Christopher Nolan special.

The Z To A Of Christopher Nolan | Zimmer, Hans

Zimmer, Hans

Since crafting the Batman Begins and Dark Knight scores with James Howard Newton, German composer Hans Zimmer has lent his hefty talents to Inception and the final part of the Bat-trilogy. Like other great director/scorer pairings, Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone among them, Nolan frees his composer from visual considerations. "I like Hans to write freely and not be trying to hit cuts and squeeze things into the tightest edits," says the director of the Hesse harmoniser, "[because] I want to hear where his imagination will go." Some pretty amazing places, judging by the heft of Inception's score and the gothic earthquake that is The Dark Knight Rises theme. It's a marriage made in the Nolan editing suite.
