8 Movie New Year Moments
If You're Having A Party, Don't Invite Pranksters
The Gold Rush (1925)
The table's set, the candles are lit and there's a chicken roasting deliciously in the oven. But where are the guests? Oh yes, they ‘forgot' to come. It turns out the beautiful Georgia and her fellow dancing girls only accepted as a joke. So with Auld Lang Syne echoing in the distance, Charlie Chaplin's crestfallen Little Tramp, duped but still hopeful, learns the hard way that a tasty chicken and a solid guest list counts for nothing in the face of a half-arsed practical joke. The ladies, for their part, miss out on a party trick involving high-kicking bread rolls that's so awesome it could partner up with John Sergeant and still win Strictly Come Dancing.
