Moneyball (2011)

DIRECTOR Bennett Miller
STARS Brad Pitt, Robin Wright, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman

Microsoft Excel finally got its own Social Network in a business-of-baseball flick that gripped and turned like a 12-6 curveball (Fear not! We have looked this up on Wikipedia – it is a thing). With a script by Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin it was always going to have zip, but Brad Pitt's cracking turn as sabermetrics pioneer and Oakland A's manager Billy Beane makes it an MVP among sports movies too. Using stats to create a winning team of crocks, rejects and has-beens, Beane's approach forges a Major League outfit from minor league talent. And the best thing? You don't need to know who Jason Giambi is to enjoy it.

2 RE: What the Hell!?
l largely an excuse for Chaplin to show off his legendary slapstick skills and rubbery physical abilities while poking fun at sports clichés and underdog stories, but it's still more entertaining than most of the films it skewers. ow exactly does Chaplin, in 1915, skewer films that are very very far from being made and poking fun at sports clichés that do not yet exist? 3 RE: Rocky - third place
BASEketball should totally be in here. Okay it's not a real sport, but it is a sport movie. And it's funny as shit wise a pretty damn solid list. (Rocky 2-4 should be included as well, but maybe that's being a bit greedy...) Read More
