Senna (2010)

DIRECTOR Asif Kapadia
STARS Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Jackie Stewart
Asif Kapadia's essential documentary is both a deeply moving portrait of Ayrton Senna, and a fascinating overview of Formula One in the '80s and early '90s. Following Senna's rise and rise at McLaren, and his fractious relationship with his beleaguered and exasperated teammate Alain Prost, Senna comes across as a hero, but no saint. The sheer volume of dramatic race-footage that was available to illustrate the story makes it action-packed enough to capture the attention of audiences whether they know nothing or everything about the sport, and its towering central figure comes across as both sympathetic and infuriating.

ow exactly does Chaplin, in 1915, skewer films that are very very far from being made and poking fun at sports clichés that do not yet exist? And it's funny as shit wise a pretty damn solid list. (Rocky 2-4 should be included as well, but maybe that's being a bit greedy...)
