In regard to Spiderman 3. I came out of the cinema with a totally underwhelming sense of dissapointment. The previuos two represented a fine example of modern comic strip films - excitement and adventure mixed with good humour throughout. This sequel provided none of the original charm but slapped its audience with a massive dose of CGI overkill. The three bad guys were inefectual and detracted from the missing plot. Overall a sad end to a promissing franchise. Though I am sure more will be produced, will certainly be wary of forking out more money to see them. Read More

Which of the lead actors are we supposed to warm to, or feel any empathy towards? The whole concept is lost on me. As for Transformers 2...it was so geographically WRONG I almost choked on my popcorn!
Having just returned from a year in Egypt, I was actually embarrassed at the errors in Transformers 2...Prime falls off Cheops Pyramid (which is in Giza, Cairo) and falls onto the Hypostyle Temple (which is in Luxor, only about 500 miles south of Cairo).
Then when they are in the temple in Petra, Jordan to get the key of life thingy...they leave the crescent canyon, and come round the corner into Cairo again!!!
Ok, so maybe the average kid won't bother about these things, but anybody with half a brain and a respect for history and wonders of the world will have a lot to say - and I for one hated the movie, purely for this reason.
Michael Bay showed a complete lack of respect for viewers with these horrendous errors, and should be punished for them. Read More

| 55 | RE: Arrested Development |
| Posted on Tuesday February 9, 2010, 12:58 by Cruisecontroller |
Personally I don`t beleive Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen should be on this list even if it was overlong and sometimes hard to follow the action and story. With hindsight after initially being blown away by it visually I can see it is flawed but it certainly is not one of the worst movies ever made. Nor is Scary Movie which overall is to me a funny spoof of horror movies. Scary Movie 2 however is a differnet matter that was rubbish. Plus Spiderman 3 was maybe overloaded with plot, baddies and just too much in general with some dogey acting from Tobey Maguire when Peter Parker really loses control to Venom but its still exciting and fun to watch and not in my view worthy of being in this list just the weakest of that trilogy. There are far worse memorable films that could and should be on. I just think some people like to bash certain movies because they don`t want to be seen to be following the crowd and want to be controversial with their votes. Read More

| 56 | Arrested Development |
| Posted on Tuesday February 9, 2010, 07:27 by allkneel |
RuralJuror, I think the reviewer most likely meant the psychological term 'arrested development', not the television series. Arrested development is a term used to describe a lack of intelligence, suggesting that development can be stopped, or 'arrested'. Therefore, people who like this movie could be said to have a sense of humour that could be considered arrested development.
I'm not saying that they do, I've not seen it. I think it looks dreadful, so wouldn't even give it a watch. Read More

| 60 | Read Critic Review of YEAR ONE |
| Posted on Monday February 8, 2010, 05:34 by RuralJuror |
I LOVE Arrested Development for it's dry, quick, and witty humor, and Year One is so far from that show it's insulting that a critic would associate the two. Year One was disappointingly terrible, and I tried real hard to find times to laugh.
Other than that this list seems to be just a list of the movies that were over hyped and turned out to be huge disappointments. Yeah, Spidey 3 wasn't half as good as 2, but it's nowhere close to being in the worst 50 films. Notice how most all of these are fantasy/sci-fi/action. No drama's, non-spoof comedies, or documentaries. It's not that I don't disagree, I just feel the sample is skewed. I didn't love the Happening, but I also didn't feel it was one of the 15 worst films of all time. M Night wanted it to feel like a B movie like it is, sometimes people just expect the Sixth Sense every time and you're not going to get that. Oh well. Transformers 2 did suck big time, and where is XO: Wolverine? That was a million times worse than Spidey 3.Read More

3)Transporter 2 - Stath flips the car and uses a crane to remove the bomb to the undercarrage and then lands the car perfectly.

If I had to pick any, I'd pick these two: Christmas With The Kranks and a film I only just discovered, called I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell. Check out the trailer. I never imagined anyone could create a film that makes the new American Pies look cultured and intelligent, but here it is.

Please, there are so much, much worse movies than thouse on this list, I mean how hard is to say that a movie like Epic Movie is 120 min of crap, I havent seen it and I can tell you: Dont see it, its CRAP. Hulk (the first one) or Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2. or the House of the 1000 corpses There has to be some standars because there are movies which are ment to be bad, but when you think you are watchin something serius and then the director or the writers come out with stuff like this on The Forgotten (2004) were aliens can erase people memory, travel to galaxies but not fix a wall painted with cayons (what the f....!). There are far worse movies out there that I can think off, this movie should be anywhere near this list let alone on it. Come on empire, sort your shit out.For example where the hell is the school of rock on the list. That is a truly terrible and to mention boring movie. Read More

I can think of far worse films to go on that list.
But just for the crack, Blade 3, which wasn't bad, Transformers 2 which wasn't bad. Yet where is Xmen 3 and Superman Returns which were horrendously bad.
In fact Superman Returns getting a 5 stars from empire is precisly the reason (and the point in time from when) I no longer trust Empire reviews.

.... I'm sorry... but really? No ISHTAR???? Have you not seen this movie? Certainly not twice! And did you not see it because you heard how much of a waste of time it was? Did you not see it because in nearly all circles it has been lauded as the worst film ever made? Wait.... I get it... it was so bad it doesn't even make the list because it would shine critical and comsumer praise on any of the 50 that did??? I find Batman and Robin to be a utter calamity... a stain on the superhero film genre... worthless drivel that the poor cast somehow felt obliged to be a part of ( ah, the mighty paycheck ).... but still... I'd rather have it looped and visually fed to me ala Clockwork Orange reprogramming style, than to ever have to sit through another veiwing of Ishtar... perhaps enough havn't seen it to warrent it's omission.... maybe I'm just jealous I'm not amongst those numbers...

Not that I have anything against the Zanester, though I do probably have a lot against mr Ben Affleck, truly the awful movies answer to Robert De Niro's fantastic seventies run? Hey,
I personally loved The Love Guru. I don't really understand what people have against it - it made me laugh a lot.
I gave a big cheer to see Alone in the Dark on the list - an absolute disaster of a film! But was disappointed that The Phantom Menace didn't make it - a film that taught me never to raise my expectations too highly for a film.
Definitely there are worst films out there -watch Sci-Fi or any Hallmark original production - but these are cheaply film, and never strive to be classics - all the films in this list had bigger budgets and actors involved - which is why people dislike them so much Read More

I don't understand al the hate directed at Heaven's Gate. I watched it on tv one night & it wasn't half bad. The version I watched was over 4 hours including ads so it must've been the 219 minutes cut. Granted some of the scenes are a bit pointless & overlong like the Harvard graduation & the roller skating & Chris Walken isn't the most convincing cowboy ever. I thought it was enjoyable & the cast was solid Brad Dourif, Jeff Bridges, Locke from Lost, John Hurt who's character was admittedly a little bit pointless. I thought Heaven's Gate was far superior to Year Of The Dragon, which gets touted as being Cimino's return to "form". Saying Heaven's Gate is worse than Street Fighter, Little Man or Eragon is frankly arse. Read More

Whoever voted couldn't have seen many movies. I've seen films that make most of these look like master pieces. Scary Movie was hysterical BTW and Spidey 3 was awesome - screw the critics, that's why we don't have Spidey fricking 4 cos of ppl that voted on this. As if it's one of the worst films ever made!!! What a fracking joke. Try watching the horror or Sci Fi channel late at night - believe me, you could've filled the 50 with a bunch of them. Not to mention Zone Romantica movies. What a load of shit Empire - and you call urself a movie magazine (rolls eyes).

Heaven's Gate at number 6? I'm surprised that a) so many people have watched it and b) it got so much vitriol.
I really like it, it's way too loooong in places, but the acting is fine and you do actually care about the people and the situation. I guess it's too slow for today's audiences. But 6th worst film ever? Eh, no. Superbabies 2: Baby Geniuses and Karate Dog should be there.

Putting Spiderman 3 in this list is utter nonsense. I don't know how this list doesn't have Indy 4 on it. Worst pile of bilge ever. As much as I didn't like Spidey 4, thought that was a bit harsh for it to be there. Matrix: Revolutions?? Agreed, Matrix: Revolutions is a travesty, As are anything shat into creation by Freiberg/Seltzer, and Batman & Robin is truly, truly awful. But there have been some glaring errors here by the adolescent voting public.
A lot of the films here are really rather watchable after smoking several strong joints though. I fucking love Battlefield Earth! Its TOTAL WANK but in a stoned stupour Ive nearly pissed my pants laughing at it. Unintentional genius.
Here's a thought. Ive only ever walked out on 1 movie in my whole life, strangely, and Ive seen some real shockers at the cinema. The Film? National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Now THAT was really bad, even after a lot of chronic beforehand. Read More

Because without a doubt it is trully dreadfull, it's the only movie I walked out on..Everything about it (script, direxction, acting etc() and I mean everything is appauling. I know Keanu is limited but he makes it work for him most of the time.but in this...this monstosity he's unbelievably bad. Sadly though, he's the best thing in it as Dolph Lundgren as the God-bothering villain seems acts like a kid that was too bad to be in a school play. The movie looks dreafull with god-awful CGI and set designs, the story is about nothing and goes nowhere far and the movie had a director who faxed it in (as phoning would mean him actually talking to someone on set, who might have mentioned how bad this film is going).
And why wasn't Pluto Nash and Blues Brother 2000 in the 50. Shocking ommissions. Read More

One film not on this list and to my knowledge not mentioned by anyone, was the movie 'Dagon'. Now being a horror movie fan and avid reader of H.P Lovecrafts novels I was overjoyed to hear that a movie based around 'the shadows of innsmouth' was being released. Having watched the first 30 minutes of the film on dvd (and only 30 minutes) I can categoraly say that this is the worst movie I have ever, ever seen! I even sat through the whole of house of the dead, where my friends could only last 10 minutes. This movie is shit with a capital S. The opening 10 minutes reminded me of 80s sailing drama howards way... (for fucks sake I dont want to be reminded of that shite either, it was painfull enough when I was 10), it begged the question.. this is supposed to be a horror movie and im thinking of howards way hmm? 'Attack of the Clones' is my choice for worst film ever. There are films worse than that, but AOTC was supposed to be good after the disappointing 'The Phantom Menace'. I remember watching an advanced screening and thinking how this is so not a Star Wars film. Somehow, a huge budget doesn't get you a decent scrip or actors who can act. The cast and crew clearly had a ball on set, maybe they all felt they had a job for life (I saw all the extras on DVD) and the effort was really poor. George Lucas is over-rated , his only magic was 'Star Wars' in 1977. Try watching 'Star Wars', then watch 'TPM', 'AOTC', 'ROTS' and 'Indiana Jones 4' - see if I am wrong. Read More

| Posted on Monday February 1, 2010, 16:33 by defpeppa |
Reading through the readers' comments is an enraging experience! Admittedly, this list is weak and overlooking of some of the worst cinematic crimes of yesteryear. It doesn't take a genuine film "BUFF" (something many readers seem more concerned about being than stating honest opinion ) or an ortistic memory to realise that there are Far worse films out there than many on this list. This surely is as easy to state as it is to realise that this list is a collective of submissions from twenty - thirty somethings mad at probably not knowing half of the films cos there not directed by michael bay. The insane thing is to state that Avatar and Titanic (Cameron co incidence) (un)deserve there place in the list. WAKE UP!!! Yes, Both reak in dialogue and storyline wetter than had they of been the mushy paper Bill paxton revealed from that safe. However the whole point of cinema is telling stories through different aspects. Cameron on both of these films does it effortlessly. He hasRead More

2. Octane. Seriously, watch it. It's one of the most incoherent films ever made.

Not a bad list, but wheres Mr Nanny? ( i couldnt bear it when i was 12) The Sin Eater?i cant remember that many awful films, i guess cos i dont wanna. i think people getting stressed out over the list being populated by 'big' 'famous' films should calm down, clearly Batman and Robin is obviously not the very worst film ever made, but for the talent involved, studio, franchise, money it is a disaster. As for the person suggesting Superman 3! No way after watching this again last night it is still great fun and even has archie from eastenders in it! Also Raimi robbed the idea of 'bad' spiderman doing weird things directly from it! Which makes Spidey 3 even worse. Read More

Why did I not listen to Barry Norman's review on Film 85?
When you hear, written by Dan O'Bannon, directed by Tobe Hooper, filled with space vampires and the gorgeous Mathilda May, what else would an 18 year old guy want to see in a film?
Even Frank Finlay looked like he was reading his script most of the time and couldn't believe what he was saying. If I was ever going to walk out of a film, I should have done it with that. "Plan 9 From Outer Space" is a work of genius in comparison.

I am confused about this list and what people voted. It seems that people have just voted for films in the last 10 years, and more specifically voted for spoofs of the last 5. Some of these films do earn their place on this list, but Matrix 3, Spiderman 3 and Transformers 2? Really? Are they really worse that A Nightmare on Elm street 2, Judge Dredd, Super Mario Brothers, Captivity, Charlies Angels : Full Throttle, Cheaper by the Dozen 1 & 2, Blair Witch 2, Feardotcom, The Cave, The Fog. I could go on.

I'm surprised that some blockbusters of their time didn't make it into the list. Films like "Ben Hur" and "Titanic" made a big impression in their day, but after the dust has settled we can see that they're not as good as they seemed at first. Other notable omissions from the list are Russ Meyer's biggest flop, "Beneath the Valley of the Dolls", Nicolas Cage's object of shame, "Vampire's Kiss", and the film Orlando Bloom would like to forget, "The Calcium Kid". | Posted on Sunday January 31, 2010, 00:37 by dansator |
This list is controversial, and I expect a lot of people are annoyed to see films they love in the list. Some films received votes not because they're "bad", but because they're "less good" than their predecessors. The best examples are "Spider-Man 3" and "The Matrix: Revolutions", both great films in their own right, but they fail to live up to the films that went before them. Even "Batman and Robin" has its merits. Read More

After seeing House of the Dead on there I was expecting to see Postal, but no. Maybe it's just so utterly, hilariously awful that it's actually pretty good.
If you've not seen or heard about it, there's a really funny review of it here

And you shall never forget about it again.

| 197 | RE: The 50 Worst Movies Ever |
| Posted on Saturday January 30, 2010, 18:25 by My Precious |
ots of awful films not here, perhaps it should have been 100 worst films as there as so many!!!
I've got to admit that I haven't seen most of the films in the list. I used my judgement and, look at film reviews, ads etc and decided not to see them - even when on sky or free on tv!! The few I have seen have because my fella wanted to see them eg Ultraviolet (Milla in tight clothes) or Van Helsing (not sure why other than stupidity!) Cat Woman (girl fight) and Highlander 2 (he liked the first). I admit that I got nearly half way through white chicks for waving the white flag and turning it off, at least I hadn't paid to see it!! James Cameron may have be a god after Aliens but Titanic!! Why oh why did people go to see it!! Dito for Mamma Mia - people moan about how bad it was, use your commom sense - I saw the ads for it, cringed and vowed never to watch it!! Another Alien director god - Ridley Scott - Kingdom of Heaven anyone? Only a blind and deaf moron would choose Orlando Bloom fRead More

The two alien versus predators nearly made me cry they were so bad! the second one in particular was basically watching a movie in the dark and just made no sense at all. at least batman and robin had alicia silverstones ass in a suit but requim was just awful, the best part was the opening title sequence Read More

I'm sorry. The Room is incredible.
I believe it has taken the comedy genre to new levels. A film so downright awful that the combination of all the terrible sets, acting, lighting, editing, dialogue and direction surely cannot be coincidental.
Surely? Read More
