Gigli

Who's responsible?
Director Martin Brest, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez.

Why it's on the list
It's almost impossible to believe, looking at this, that Martin Brest directed Beverly Hills Cop. After all, this is supposed to be a comedy too, but you wouldn't guess it from the laughs. And with J.Lo playing the sort of lesbian only found in movies (talks dirty, sleeps with men) it's impossible to take seriously.

Redeeming feature
Christopher Walken and Al Pacino's cameos are the closest the film gets to funny.

What the critics said
"Nearly as unwatchable as it is unpronounceable The pair should reconsider working with anyone who thought well of a movie hinged on jokes about the disabled, switch-hitting lesbians, and the sight of a dead man's brain splattered across an aquarium."
- Manohla Darghis, The Times

1 Coyote Ugly Anyone?
Posted on Friday September 5, 2014, 14:31 by Netherhero
I never watched the third matrix but it has to be better than Coyote Ugly? I mean it's a movie about Piper Perabo becoming a barwhore and I still hate it. And also Half Moon Street should be top 10, did they give a handicap to the eighties or m I just the only one who has seen some of those unfortunate pieces of crap? Read More

3 Worst movies R the most fun!
Posted on Sunday June 29, 2014, 22:55 by PaducahLuvChild
Down here at my school in Louisiana, we put together a "worst movies night" twice a semester. For the really bad movies, the ones that makes you groan, N we plays diffrent kinds of drinking games. Like that Star Troopers movie, where the big bugs kills all the dudes, we drinks a vodka shot for every dude that gets eaten alive. Then there's that real sic film, Hollywood Zap, where there's this old rabbi dude talks about nothing other than his nasty farts N taking dumps, thru the whole movie, N you gots to drink a beer everytime he lets out a big one, N I thnk he blows one out at least 50 times during that sic show. But I thnk my favrite stinker is the total laugh about the volcano erupting under Los Angesleeze, where every time a dude gets melted in the lava, then it's one red pepper N a tequila, N that one burns the throat bad!! Bad can be funny as hell, N whas wrong with that? Read More

4 Misleading Title
Posted on Saturday May 3, 2014, 02:07 by ChasB423
This should almost be called "The 50 Worst Films Under 30." Seriously, we're talking about "of ALL time" here...and only 3 of these titles are over 30 years old. This is just a small example of a larger problem I have, which is that whenever ANY topic concerning film comes up and insists that it covers the entire span of motion picture history, no one bothers to go back past the 70s or 80s generally. There are decades worth of films...be them classics or, in this case, god-awful...that would unseat a number of these titles. To put it in lighter terms, you could absolutely replace nearly all of the films on this list if you've watched "Mystery Science Theater 3000." But even putting that truth aside, there is absolutely no way we live in a world where I would believe "Batman & Robin" is a worse film than "The Room," "Battlefield: Earth" or any number of the spoof films ("Meet the Spartans"/"Epic Movie"). Those spoof films are just nonsense where "Batman & Robin," for all its garisRead More

Why are critics always so negative? The majority of movies in your list and very enjoyable. Even here, you claim that the movie viewers voted, I find that very hard to believe - this list seems compiled by a bitter, hate filled old hermit. Do you sit in an office, isolated from society, and write your reviews? It's quite obvious that you do not go to the theater or talk with those who do. The only thing positive I can say about critics, if they say something is bad, then it's a must see - if (and that is very rare) they ever say something nice, it's like raising a red flag to announce a very boring and shallow movie, or one where the producers offered a large enough bribe. Do I respect critics? No! Negative reviews do not earn respect. I do respect honest, fair, and unbiased reviews conducted by actual movie goers, not by the prima donnas and divas of the back room. 8 Bad Movies, but Worst?
Posted on Thursday December 5, 2013, 02:11 by bobmunkkerplunk
Okay, I am getting incredibly annoyed by these tons of internet lists where people list bad movies claiming them to be 'the worst of all time'. Despite the fact that I know that you guys didn't choose the movies, the voters did, I really think that's not a very good method! As a result, you're going to get a lot of movies that, while not in any way, shape, or form deserving a ranking as one of the worst movies of all time, will get put at the very top, such as Batman & Robin! Come on, both Showgirls (#49) and The Room (#10) were far worse in quality. P.S. Battlefield Earth was in no way influenced by Scientology. Scientology is stupid and all, but shut up. Read More

10 A sense of perspective!
Posted on Thursday September 12, 2013, 12:46 by HelgaViking
Seriously, Blade Trinity and Matrix Revolutions were not great films but the worst???? Where was Spiceworld? Hudson Hawk? and a film which has left me mentally scarred for life, Space Truckers? (nobody ever wants to see a robot Charles Dance revving his own man parts up like a chainsaw*shudders*). For example, I think Australia is a bad film. Mainly because I found it so achingly boring, I fell asleep. I would however never put it on the worst ever movies list because there are so many more worse films out there. We all have films we think are bad but the worst??? Think people should use a little more perspective sometimes...... Read More

Too many decent movies on here such as Van Helsing, Spidey 3, Scary Movie, and Batman and Robin wasn't great, but it stand head and shoulders above movies such as: Battleship! I felt ripped off paying $3 to see it in the rerun theater. How about "Little Black Book?" Star Trek V: The Final Frontier? And I saw one about a tire going around blowing people up with its "mind" called Rubber.... and then Bachelor Party in the Bungalow of the Damned. Hands down worse movie ever.... Read More

I mean i mentioned BARBRAELLA in a earlier comment and all 50 of these are better and there is a movie named.... A funny thing happened on the way to the forum ... which is also worse then all 50 of these.I KNOW IT SAYS AS VOTED BY YOU BUT YOU SHOULD THROW IN TRULY BAD MOVIES WITH CHEESY AFFECTS AND BAD ACTING. I actually liked The Matrix Revolutions. Sure, it is not as good as the first Matrix movie, that was wayyy better, but I do not think it should be here on this list. Also, Spider-Man 3 wasn't bad either, not as good as Spider-Man 2 but that also does not belong here. Instead of The Matrix Revolutions and Spider-Man 3 please add Movie 43 (2013) and Jack and Jill (Adam Sandler Bulls**t) as those are much worse, But for the rest of this list, I pretty much agree. That film was great. I really liked Van Helsing too. I hated Dream Catcher too but liked it a lot more the second time. What should be on the list is Gummo which is a flat out abomination that should be played over and over again to the inmates on death row so they stop appealing their sentence. Another mega bomb was Spun which is a 'comedy' about meth addiction. Scary Movie 4 was horrible too. Supergirl should be on the list for numerous reasons: Faye Dunaways and Peter O'Toole's worst films. Horrible acting and even worse special effects. Read More

41 Unified Theory of Bad Movies

I'm always interested in lists of bad films - and also in reading the comments from those who think the worst of the worst weren't included. I began to wonder why and how people vote the way they do (for bad movies specifically, anything else is overwhelming). I ran across this blog post - very VERY detailed analysis/breakdown. I love the idea of coming up with a Unified Theory of Bad Movies (and honestly, I'm not even a math freak). There were several movies missing off the list, which I would have expected instead of some others (which have their following and some redeeming moments). For example 'Birdemic' - this movie makes 'Plan 9 from Outer Space' look accomplished. You need a truely great understanding of movies to get a movie so totally and utterly wrong. A masterpiece of failure. Also - where are 'Ishtar' and 'Manos: The Hands of Fate'? On other notes: 'Highlander 2' redeeming features: 1. Sean Connery: 'So much for horse and cart' 2. The airline entertainment movie ... This makes about 6 minutes and 58 seconds of 'Highlander 2' watchable. Read More

Yet where is Xmen 3 and Superman Returns which were horrendously bad. In fact Superman Returns getting a 5 stars from empire is precisly the reason (and the point in time from when) I no longer trust Empire reviews. greed.  I kept expecting Superman Returns to appear on the list, even got quite 'excited' when it didn't come up early, thinking that it would be quite high and that finally the veil had been lifted from everyone's eyes and they could see it for the utter tripe it was... but no.  Disappointing. In detail: Indy IV starts badly orse en finishes terribly adful film in its own right but the thing that made me angry was the way it pissed over my fond childhood memories. All copies of it should be burned. The Simpsons. Mr Burns was on screen for 30 seconds. They were the only vaguely amusing 30 seconds of the whole film. 82.386% of film takes place outside of springfield so all the funny characters are reduced to vague cameos. Hey don't everyone go blaming Empire, the readers are responsible for this list. Shame on whoever voted for Spider-man 3, its not even the worst super-hero movie ever. Daredevil, x-men origins:wolverine, both fantastic 4's, ghost rider - all worse and they didn't even make the list. Batman and Robin was awful but no-where near the worst film ever made. Plus I agree about this being re-named 'worst mainstream movies'. IO could fill a list and then some with the amount of shocking independant flicks I've watched. Read More

Personally I don`t beleive Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen should be on this list even if it was overlong and sometimes hard to follow the action and story. With hindsight after initially being blown away by it visually I can see it is flawed but it certainly is not one of the worst movies ever made. Nor is Scary Movie which overall is to me a funny spoof of horror movies. Scary Movie 2 however is a differnet matter that was rubbish. Plus Spiderman 3 was maybe overloaded with plot, baddies and just too much in general with some dogey acting from Tobey Maguire when Peter Parker really loses control to Venom but its still exciting and fun to watch and not in my view worthy of being in this list just the weakest of that trilogy. There are far worse memorable films that could and should be on. I just think some people like to bash certain movies because they don`t want to be seen to be following the crowd and want to be controversial with their votes. Read More

Come on... Spiderman 3 + Transformers 2. So they weren't as good as previous films/comics/shows, but there's no way they can genuinely be considered amongst the worst movies of all time. If I had to pick any, I'd pick these two: Christmas With The Kranks and a film I only just discovered, called I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell. Check out the trailer. I never imagined anyone could create a film that makes the new American Pies look cultured and intelligent, but here it is. Read More

L: D_DuMas I can think of far worse films to go on that list. But just for the crack, Blade 3, which wasn't bad, Transformers 2 which wasn't bad. Yet where is Xmen 3 and Superman Returns which were horrendously bad. In fact Superman Returns getting a 5 stars from empire is precisly the reason (and the point in time from when) I no longer trust Empire reviews. sp; This is the most shocking post I have read. 5 stars for Superman returns? L: bdmrmapf .... I'm sorry... but really? No ISHTAR???? Have you not seen this movie? Certainly not twice! And did you not see it because you heard how much of a waste of time it was? Did you not see it because in nearly all circles it has been lauded as the worst film ever made? Wait.... I get it... it was so bad it doesn't even make the list because it would shine critical and comsumer praise on any of the 50 that did??? I find Batman and Robin to be a utter calamity... a stain on the superhero film genre... worthless drivel that the poor cast somehow felt obliged to be a part of ( ah, the mighty paycheck ).... but still... I'd rather have it looped and visually fed to me ala Clockwork Orange reprogramming style, than to ever have to sit through another veiwing of Ishtar... perhaps enough havn't seen it to warrent it's omission.... maybe I'm just jealous I'm not amongst those numbers... sp; There's a Gary Larson (The farside) drawing of Hell's video store, and all they haveRead More

Scary Movie was hysterical BTW and Spidey 3 was awesome - screw the critics, that's why we don't have Spidey fricking 4 cos of ppl that voted on this. As if it's one of the worst films ever made!!! What a fracking joke. Try watching the horror or Sci Fi channel late at night - believe me, you could've filled the 50 with a bunch of them. Not to mention Zone Romantica movies. What a load of shit Empire - and you call urself a movie magazine (rolls eyes). sp; Jesus man, here you go again.  Do you ever think before you type?   Oh, while we're still on this?  Where the fuck was Seven Pounds?  Or did nobody see it?   The Omen remake deserved to be on here too but obviously people avoided that as well!  One of the most genuinely offensively bad films I've ever seen. Heaven's Gate at number 6? I'm surprised that a) so many people have watched it and b) it got so much vitriol. I really like it, it's way too loooong in places, but the acting is fine and you do actually care about the people and the situation. I guess it's too slow for today's audiences. But 6th worst film ever? Eh, no. Superbabies 2: Baby Geniuses and Karate Dog should be there. I haven't clicked through most of the list as it's taking an age to load each page. TOTALLY agree with some of the entries on the list - the top 10 while proberbly not the worst film of all time that the list says they are, are all absolutly shite movies. However, this list also contains some complete crap that undermines the whole thing: - Transformers 2 - Not a gr8 film, but entertaining, good fun and amazing special effects. - Spiderman 3 - yeh a dissapointment considering how class the first 2 were but still a good action film. Discount the last 20 minutes and you might say it comes close to being as good as the original! - Scary Movie - In bad taste but funny, how the original gets in but the awful 3rd and 4th one does is completely beyond me. Apart from that, this is a fairly good list and it does bring to light some of the biggest travisties in Hollywood. (as a side note, it is hilerious how Empire rated qite a few of these "worst films ever made with 3* Maybe you should write your own list Empire and be honest!) Read More
