What's The Secret Of Their Success?
Truffaut and Leaud go together like black-and-white, like nouvelle and vague. Leaud starred in some of Truffaut's most important films, starting in The 400 Blows when he was just 14. Throughout his career with Truffaut, he played the same character - Antoine Doinel - in four different feature films and one short, spanning 20 years in the life of the character, who was closely based on Truffaut himself.

Were They As Good With Anyone Else?
While Leaud is chiefly associated with Truffaut and playing Antoine Doinel, he actually made more films - nine in fact - with Jean-Luc Goddard. Basically, if it was French and New Wave, he was almost certainly in there somewhere. Truffaut, of course, also made Jules et Jim, so hardly depended on Doinel's films to make his mark.
