THE HEAT

The Heat poster The Heat poster

The posters for Paul Feig’s buddy-copedy were a bust from the start. Melissa McCarthy – beautiful, lovely, funny, box office catnip Melissa McCarthy, who’s been brilliant even before Gilmore Girls arrived – looked nothing like chuckle-bringing dynamo many met in Bridemaids back in 2011. These two posters, more than any others on this list, are the Photoshop disasters of 2013, and worthy of entry into Empire’s Badly Photoshopped Movie Posters Hall Of Fame.

That said, after feeling – ahem – the heat from critics, they did fix it on the Blu-ray release. Hooray!

2 Font choice
The big trend I've noticed (not just this year) is the over-reliance on the Bank Gothic font to make movie titles look 'slick' and 'edgy'. More

3 Fully Intended?
I recall the middle poster for Heat from hoardings. I thought it was meant to be terrible. Isn't that part of the joke? Really terrible by design. More

Anton Yelchin's poster looks funny, as does the Gangster Squad one-is that a gay American Simon Pegg? And Gerard Butler looks like he's crossed himself with Cumberbatch and Jimmy Carr : ) More

The Paranoia poster looks like a film I'd go see but unfortunately missed because now the latest supernatural teen romance flick is taking its place. More
