The 30 Reasons Why We Love Indy | 3. The Devotion It Inspires
3. The Devotion It Inspires

It is very unlikely that you will ever meet anyone who loathes the Indiana Jones franchise and if you do you should swiftly take your leave of this curmudgeon. Indy, thanks to a desire to do nothing more than entertain, has a power to unite that few other franchises possess (Star Wars and Lord of the Rings have just as many haters as lovers). As the fourth film premiered in Cannes there were grown men many of them press brandishing signs that begged for tickets. And there is no greater sign of the devotion, happiness and inclusiveness it inspires than Raiding The Lost Ark, a "filmumentary" that serves as a kind-of-sorta director's commentary for the original Indiana Jones feature.

Odd dates too. A 40yo would have barely been 10 when Raiders came out so for it to be as successful as it was (top 20 inflation adjusted box office of all time) it clearly had a much wider appeal than a bunch of 10yos.    Also - slightly sexist. Not all Empire reviewers are male. More

Glad to see this article focuses mainly on the original trilogy and not on that bag of sh*te Skull. And what was that bit about Spielberg 'using practical effects and stuntmen wherever possible' on the 4th film?? Ants? Jeep swordfight? Waterfall? Aliens? Spaceships? Magnetic gunpowder? Fridges? Pyramids? MONKEYS!!!!!!! Christ it's difficult to think of a scene where Lucas.....sorry Spielberg DIDN'T use any CGI. Hang on....was Ray Winstone real or was he this film's Jar Jar Binks?....cos he was equally as annoying! More

I'm biased obviously but surely he deserves an entry here? And Pat Roach deserved his own entry! More

10 Pat Roach
The late great Pat Roach kicking Indys arse in three different characters is the reason alone to love Indy trilogy. And the reason why Kindom of the Crystal Scum sucked so badly. No Pat equals no good Indy movie. More
