1 RE: Beware customs charges!
It's just that you seem to be blaming the company for poor service when it's nothing to do with them. If you get caught out with a parcel from, say, Amazon US they're not going to reimburse you for UK taxes either. Honest ut you are right - it's everyone's personal responsibility to check these things before purchase to ensure, if an item is caught, that you still feel the total possible cost is a bargain. Particularly useful to remember this with eg Ebay. Read More

2 RE: Beware customs charges!
The $10 I mentioned was the shipping charges from the company selling the t-shirt. regarding Amazon. I've bought dozens of items in the last few years with a wide range of costs form varying countries. To date I've never had anything other then exemplary service from them. Back on topic. I'm not going to get anything back from HMRC or form Royal Mail. I just hope people read the post and take the general point which is to be cautious regarding where you purchase things form online. As you will have the best intentions and will want to purchase a particular item at a good price only to be messed around by our lovely tax system. Read More

3 RE: Beware customs charges!
What was the $9/$10 you mention above? If $24.50 is marginally over the limit unfortunately. The charges themselves aren't variable - you can find the calculator for them on the HMRC website. The Royal Mail is a standard charge. The simple fact each should have told you is this is our tax system and it's all laid out here http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/post/internet.htm. What is variable is whether you get caught or not. THAT can be random - so you were just lucky first time, which is always nice. Also - shipments from Amazon US are also subject to the tax if over the limit and Amazon gets caught a heck of a lot more in my experience because checks on them anecdotally aren't random . It isn't really fair to criticise the company as if it's their fault when the issue is our tax system, something they have no responsibility for. Read More

4 RE: Beware customs charges!
The T-shirt was $24.50 so that puts me shit-outta-luck. My issue is that I just can't seem to find any agreement in the charges. If they were even a highly respected, independent company with a history of sound practice and excellent customer service I woudln't have a problem, but not it's the Royal Mail. Pity you can't get these things on Amazon, you could set your watch by those guys. Read More

5 RE: Beware customs charges!
If you only paid $10 for the T-shirt then get the refund form from the PO for the HMRC charges - internet shopping import limits start at £15. The bad news is that you'll only get a refund from HMRC - the PO never refund their ridiculously high handling charge.   If it was above the limit you're not entitled to any refund and it's not the company's problem - it's the buyer's responsibility to be aware of domestic taxes. So buck passing would be irrelevant - law is the law.     Read More

6 RE: Beware customs charges!
HI all I'm sure most of you will be aware of this but it may act as a point of caution to others. I like many readers of this website really enjoyed the feature and purchased two products as a result of it . 1 Forrest Gump Nike swoosh 2, Iron Man - Vitruviron Man. The first T-shirt arrived within 10 days of ordering without a hitch. The second took nearly 3 weeks and was subjected to an additional £11.19 customs charge. I have raised this issue with the company, The Royal Mail and HMRC. Guess what, they are each giving me the run around and passing the buck. Apparently the only reason I did no t get charged for the first t-shirt is because someone didn't do their job properly. Considering I paid $9 and $10 respectively for these items i think these charges are a joke and at current exchange rates mean the shipping cost more that the shirt. Please be aware of this when you look to purchase any of these items. Thanks for reading Rob Read More

11 RE: Clothes for kids?
Oh yep, Redbubble - weirdly I only ran across them last week randomly looking for Firefly stuff, but they had exactly what I'd just spent the past two days fruitlessly trawling all the other t-shirt sites for. It's a bit more like Etsy so you can shop by designer = much more likely to find something you like (especially TV related - some brilliant BSG/GoT/Firefly, and the Muppet mash-ups are kind of genius..) Try http://somethinggeeky.com/ They have loads of cool movie t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts for kids and adults. And if you see a design that you like on any garment that you can't see advertised on the garment you want to buy, you can email them and they'll make it for you. Read More

13 RE: Clothes for kids?
Pelle - Redbubble has a plethora of designs for just about every film ever. Cast an eye on t shirt of the day sites like qwertee, teefury and shirt punch, plenty of great designs there. btw, Empire, great feature, could we see 100 TV t shirts in the future? Or indeed 100 pieces of movie artwork? Read More
