10 Directors Who Could Take Over Spider-Man
Sam Raimi's off to other adventures. Who could handle Sony's planned reboot?
Spider-Man is going back to the beginning. Yes, it was announced on Monday that the friendly neighbourhood superhero would not, in fact be continuing with Sam Raimi directing and Tobey Maguire starring in Spider-Man 4, but that the entire story would reboot back to Peter Parker's high school days. So just who could take over waving the megaphone for the films going forward? We select a few possibilities for your deliberation...

1. Edgar Wright

Who He? Come on... You know this. Wright's collaborated with Simon Pegg on TV's legendary Spaced, then made Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz. Currently, he's putting the finishing touches to his epic adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World.

Why He? A geek favourite and pop culturally aware type, he's got plenty of credibility. Not only has he written one Marvel adaptation already (his Ant Man script has been in the works for ages), but Pilgrim is shaping up to prove he's more than adept at handling a beloved comics title. Plus, he knows how to wrangle great character work and his style, while certainly Raimi-inspired, is unique. He's a friend of Raimi's, though, and might balk at the idea of making a movie that essentially wipes out his pal's work.
