This one, however, was 100 per cent made for you. Seriously, if you’re a movie geek, this game was produced to delight you more than any other. It’s called YooStar 2, and essentially it’s movie karaoke.
Allow us to explain. Using your PS3’s PlaystationEye or your Xbox 360’s Kinect, Yoostar 2 records your very own body and transposes it over your favourite movie scenes, just like that. You’re given the exact words to say on screen, told just when to say them, and you’re suddenly acting out Hollywoood blockbusters in your living room.
Put it this way: you can become Arnold Schwarzenegger – okay, not literally, but go with it – saying “I’ll be back” before ploughing a car into a police clerk’s face... in front of your TV.
There’s a whole multitude of different films to choose from, including The Hangover, 300, Casablanca, Grease, Gladiator, Top Gun. The Godfather, Rocky. Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan, Animal House… the list goes on and on.
And by “on and on” we really mean it – you can download more and more movies when they become available on the Yoostar store, but with about 50 odd movies to start with just on the disc, you should be fine for the time being. Especially as there are also TV shows (like Mad Men) and more static backgrounds (like the Bridge from Star Trek) to play about with whenever you’re tired of doing “Blue Steel” in Zoolander.
The thing is, though the game obviously wants you to earn points, nail your cues, perfect your timing and improve your general acting skills. But when we played it, we had much more fun faffing about and saying Nic Cage quotes at completely incongruent moments. “THE BEES, THE BEES!” just seems to fit in The Blues Brothers, somehow. Maybe it’s just us. Maybe.
Our suggestion for Yoostar developers then: give us bonus points for perfecting impressions. Have a Nic Cage / Russell Crowe / Sean Connery impersonation function that rates and berates you on your attempts at imitation. Seriously, it would be hours of fun.
Just as an example, here’s a clip of the developer we met when we played the game, pretending to be Arnold Schwarzenegger. He lives a surreal life, this guy.
Just in case you were wondering, Yoostar 2 is out March 11.
