The Inbetweeners - Best Bits Of The Series

Posted on Wednesday August 17, 2011, 10:52 by Jodie McEwan in Small Screen
The Inbetweeners - Best Bits Of The Series

One of the many films I will probably kill to see (not literally) this month is The Inbetweeners Movie, Jay’s charming ‘clunge’ catchphrase (I’ll be honest, I wince every time he says it), Neil’s Saturday Night Fever dance moves and all. How could anyone not want to fork out for this bottomless barrel of hilarious cringe? Seriously, what could be better than seeing Simon puke all over his childhood crush’s ten year-old brother or Will coming on all Yoda to try to impress a girl. “Feisty one you are!” may work in the swamps of Dagobah but it’s bound to be a disaster in a Magaluf bar. Being a girl –yes, I’m going to refer to my gender this one time - I can’t help but feel sorry for the girls on the receiving end of the, let’s say, ‘haven’t-a-clue’ chat-up lines from Simon, Will and Jay. I’ll exclude Neil – he’s the only one of the group who manages to ‘score’ with the opposite sex.

The series has some cracking chat-up failures. So bad you’d think they’d make real-life crash-and-burns pale by comparison. At least that’s what I thought until I went to a fancy dress party as an OXO Cube, only to be whisked away by a boy (who looked more or less stoned) with the line: “I’d stick you in my curry any day”. It’s the first, and hopefully last, chat-up line of that nature that I ever hope to hear, but it made me realise that the cringe in the TV show comes from a real place. However, it’s that sort of cringe that’s fuelled the three series and the show’s success with gals just as well as lads. Sometimes girls like to see guys look like complete idiots and the sheer hilarity of every situation that could go wrong actually going wrong brings us back for more, series after series.

But watching the trailer had me thinking about what more the producers could do after the film – what wouldn’t end in utter failure after moreish effect the series (and probably the film) has on fans. Unless there’s a reunion of the ‘popular’ bunch, the movie seems like to end the show with Magaluf holiday snaps.

With a whole load of Inbetweeners re-runs coming our way, here are my top five clips of the cringeful series:

1. Both sickening and ridiculously funny is the clip that saw Neil as Mike Tyson’s next challenge when he punched a poor fish to death

2. Don’t you just hate the awkward moment when you throw a frisbee terribly wrong – Will seems to know this feeling very well.

3. We all love the robot, but for some reason it always seems ten times better when Neil does it.

4. One thing you should never EVER do, even if you are freaking out about exams, is drink cans and cans of energy drinks – unless you want to be the girl/boy who pooed her/himself at school.

5. A truly best bit which still has anyone driving past a bus stop shouting the now infamous phrase – bus wankers.

Even though it was incredibly hard to cut my favourite bits of the series down to five, the above chosen are my top clips until I see the movie coming out on the 17th August. The show has managed to air the cringe-worthy teenagers and their embarrassing antics in nearly ten countries – so what are your Inbetweeners best bits?

"He touched us here, here, and here...the bumhole" lol, when Simon tries to accuse Niel's dad of being a paedo. That is the funniest bit of the whole series. In fact that whole episode is amazing!

Will trying to drown out the kidney patient in the wheelchair by shouting over him. Toe-curling genius....

Fashion show Teste. Its the face and the nod while the dried conker is winking at the audience. Kudos to the guy for doing that.

Jay crashing Neil's motorbike, and banging the bookie's door open with his head. I very rarely laugh that hard.

The part where the guys are in a London Night CLub, and Neil has cut his knob on a drinks can and is trying to pee, but looks like he is wanking.... Genius.

Surely the funniest bit is when Jay is wanking with a dead hand, and his parents walk in and he's trying desperately to close the laptop. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard!

the first episode: "He's 16! 16! 17 at a push! His mum still buys his trousers!" genius.

For me, it will always be the episode in season 3 when Simon gets a little too over exited talking dirty to his girlfriend - "i'll fuck your fucking fanny off, you twat!"

Awesome.

The bit when Neil wets the bed, with Will next to him...and he can't stop!!

Where Jay is trying to one-up Neil on the bus by waving to the retirees bus, then giving them the finger and air-wanking at them.

Also the pure brilliance of this one line: You can lead a horse to water but you can't stop it from sticking lego up its bum.
