Empire StatesFive 2012 Characters Who'll Make Awesome Halloween Costumes

Posted on Sunday October 28, 2012, 16:25 by Jodie McEwan in Empire States

Halloween is fast approaching, and with it the fancy-dress gauntlet that so many of us must run. If, like me, you want to break from the standard options of witches, vampires, werewolves and ripped-shirt-and-ketchup-mouthed undead then listen up. This year’s movies offer plenty of inspirating for some alternative costumes to wow the party crowds. Here are my top five 2012 costumes for this year’s outbreak of trick ’or’ treating – plus one to avoid like a zombie plague. Read, digest and add your suggestions in the usual place.

Engineer (Prometheus)
The perfect costume for any warm-weather party, ‘Engineer Chic’ is one stride down the evolutionary scale from ‘WWE wrestler with a dry skin condition’. Big, buff and rife with anger issues, this is the perfect bump-in-the-night costume. Simply stock up on grey body paint, a swimming cap, ...

Small ScreenThe Inbetweeners - Best Bits Of The Series

The Inbetweeners - Best Bits Of The Series

One of the many films I will probably kill to see (not literally) this month is The Inbetweeners Movie, Jay’s charming ‘clunge’ catchphrase (I’ll be honest, I wince every time he says it), Neil’s Saturday Night Fever dance moves and all. How could anyone not want to fork out for this bottomless barrel of hilarious cringe? Being a girl –yes, I’m going to refer to my gender this one time - I can’t help but feel sorry for the girls on the receiving end of the, let’s say, ‘haven’t-a-clue’ chat-up lines from Simon, Will and Jay. I’ll exclude Neil – he’s the only one of the group who manages to ‘score’ with the op...

Empire StatesThe Do's And Don'ts For Picking A Takeout Night Movie

The Do's And Don'ts For Picking A Takeout Night Movie

Takeaway is probably one of the best ideas man has ever had: all you need to have a good time is food, films and an oversized hoody. But there is always the same squabble when trying to decide on the ultimate film to fit the mood, so from past experience I’m going to share the do’s and don’ts on what to watch.

I thought of this guide because last night I had people round my house to mong out, watch movies and order Chinese (the ultimate laze about session). My lounge has become the usual takeout host so my friends know the drill – bring films, bring munchies, do not wear anything that will stop your food baby from expanding, and if you leave your seat you’re automatically in a ‘you snooze, you lose’ situation. As ever, we can never decide on what film to watch but there at least one or two ground rules I’d like to share with you.

(1) Don’t watch anything that demands your full attention. This isn’t the same as ...
