Movies’ Most Quotable Lines

Movies’ Most Quotable Lines

It’s a long-standing tradition with film fans that, while partaking in daily conversation, it’s perfectly acceptable to slip into character and begin quoting lines of movie dialogue. Providing the quote is vaguely related to the topic at hand then it's perfectly acceptable to borrow from cinema to better express yourself and no one will think twice when, say, you slip into an Austrian drawl to tell someone you’ll be returning shortly.

Done properly, quotation can approach an art form, with points awarded for timing, relevance, quality of vocal mimicry and accompanying facial expression. Of course, it’s equally valid to drop them in deadpan and wait to see if whoever you’re talking to catches on, but that’s hardly as much fun. Either way, though, there’s a quote out there for every occasion, whether you’re going to need a bigger boat, you could have been a contender or you simply want to illustrate that travelling through hyperspace is not, despite widely held beliefs, anything like dusting crops. But the question is: what are the most quotable lines of all?

Being professional geeks here at Empire (as opposed to your common or garden amateur variety), we have a special fondness for great movie dialogue and as a result barely an hour passes without someone bastardising lines from one film or another. To put forward some examples (and possibly to give you some insight into life here at Empire towers) here are some of the quotes that are used and abused here on a fairly regular basis.

They say they want to cure us. I say we are the cure.”
Ian McKellen – X-Men 3
Replace ‘cure’ with whatever verb is relevant to the current conversation.

“Creasy’s art is death, and he’s about to paint his masterpiece.”
Christopher Walken – Man on Fire
In fairness this is but one of many Walken lines that accompany Chris Hewitt’s atrocious Walken impression. Don’t even mention the ‘Two mice’ speech from Catch Me If You Can, which ends up sounding more like Jackie Chan in an outtake from Rumble in the Bronx.

Sean Connery - The Rock
Of course, you could substitute any number of Connery lines for this. Or indeed any line from The Rock, Michael Bay’s most awesome picture. The possibilities are endless. You get bonus points for actually saying them on Alcatraz island, which several members of the office have managed.

“Say ‘What’ again. I dare you, I double-dare you, motherfucker.”
Sam Jackson in Pulp Fiction.

“Ladies and gentlemen, Ladies and gentlemen.”

Alan Rickman – Die Hard
This is another favourite. Pick a line from Die Hard - any line - and chances are we’ve used it. Our crowning achievement, however, was the Empire Awards back in 2005 when Chris, Sam and I stood just out of Alan Rickman’s earshot and began swapping Grüber lines while he was helping himself to vol-au-vents from the buffet table.

“Eight-year-olds, Dude.”
John Goodman – The Big Lebowski
I should hasten to add that this is apropos of nothing - there are no registered sex offenders working in the office.

“It’s like watching a bunch of retards trying to fuck a doorknob.”

Rip Torn – Dodge Ball
Another quoteathon film, though several people in the office maintain that Anchorman is better in this (And every other) respect. They are mistaken.

“Alright you heard the man and you know the drill, assholes and elbows.”

Al Matthews - Aliens

Anything Arnold Schwarzenegger has ever said.
Arguably the most quotable man to grace the screen, Arnie quotes are almost a category of their own. It could be the cheesy delivery or just that anything sounds amusing when said in a comedy Teutonic accent. Choice examples would have to include:
“Go! Get to the chopper!”
“I eat green berets for breakfast, and right now I am very hungry.”
“Here is Sub-zero. Now plain zero!
“See you at the party, Richter.”

Anything from the supporting cast of Predator or Commando
Surpassing evenArnie himself, the general awesomeness of the dialogue in these two means you can stick a pin anywhere in the screenplays and come up trumps, especially if it’s something from Jesse Ventura or Vernon Wells. Favourites include:
“I ain't got time to bleed.”
“This stuff’ll make you a god damn seuxual tyrannosaurus, just like me.”
“I don't need the gun, John. I can beat you. I Don’t need no gun!”
"The demon that makes trophies of men." (said in pseudo-hispanic accent)

So, that’s us. What about you?

I have often wanted to pipe up with "How do i get out of this chicken shit outfit" during managers meetings at work. The line of course being uttered by the great Bill Paxton in Aliens. I have yet to work up the cahones......

Aliens is one of the most quotable films.

The solution to many problems, from a persistant stain on the carpet, to an ant infestation is to "take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure"

The perfect comeback when you've done something embarrassing and people are laughing at you? "Laugh it up fuzzball"

The only permissable response when you're arguing about where to eat? "Cheeseburger" - best served with accompanying hand movement a la Seth Brundle

Somebody hints at something but refuses to say any more? "Why are you unpopular with the Chicago Police Department?"

And, although it's from a TV show rather than a film, there's no better all-purpose non-sequitur to suit any occasion than "These pretzels are making me thirsty."

...what about waiting until a managerial position comes your way and, when sitting in a company strategy meeting pipe up with: "My men are not expendable, and I don't do this kind of work".

PS Just realised I can totally have that Seinfeld line as a movie quote, because it's from a fictional Woody Allen film, isn't it?!

What about Bruce Campbell? Most people I know use "groovy" as an epithet, and I think that's probably down to Mr C. Also popular are "hey, she-bitch - let's go" (normally when trying to get your missus out the house) and, of course, "you got two things going for you - Jack and shit. And Jack just left town."

In fact, "What about Bruce Campbell?" is becoming a regular quote in the comments section of the Empire blog...

I can't believe you missed out "If it bleed we can kill it" from Predator, apt for any wound from papercut to headshot. I also like "Game over man! Game over" from Aliens but as I work with lasers I have the right and the privilege to say "Fire the "LASER"" with air quotes. That has kept me amused for many a boring afternoon.

Gotta agree with 'Dodgeball', "you're about as useful as a cock-flavoured lolli-pop" gets a lot of mileage. Other favourites with my friends and I include "the painted man, he haunts my dream" from 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves' (it's amazing how often it can be shoehorned into a conversation), "I don't think a person should run unless they're being chased" from 'The Faculty' (good for any situation involving forced participation in sporting 'fun') and the classic "he's more machine now than man, twisted and evil" (no explanation necessary).

Kudos must also go to those eminently quotable TV shows out there, some of our favourites being: 'Father Ted' ("Go on, there's cocaine in them), 'Black Books' ("It's like looking into the eye of a duck"), anything by Joss Whedon ("Tact is just not saying true stuff"), and the mother of them all 'Spaced', from which the meta-quote is born.

James, I agree with the rest of the office, Anchorman is better. When your explaining how good something you've just bought is, "(Make up any percentage)% of the time, it works, every time." "Son of a bee-sting."
When someone is explaining something, and you have no idea what they're talking about. "Well, when in Rome." Classy.

A favourite from Robocop, used when seeing a fine looking specimen of femininity: "I'd buy THAT for a dollar!"

And from Scent of a Woman, just in any situation: "HOO-HAH!"

Rolling with some comando quotes "Let off some steam Bennet"
Running Man "Wheres Buzssaw?" "Oh, he had to split"

Personal favourites are Anchorman quotes all the way
"It's a formidable scent... It stings the nostrils. In a good way."
"Smells like Big Foots Dick"
"Great Odin's raven"
"Knights of Columbus, that hurt."
"I'm in a glass case of emotion."
"I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater. You ladies play your cards right you just might get to meet the whole gang."

I could go on and on. Wolds most quotable film in my Opinion.

Some of the classics from the naked gun, such as responding, "yes, it is", when offered a cigarrette, or indeed, anything else.

My personal pulp fiction favorite, "...cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast" when someone casts doubt upon the sensibility of whatever you might be consuming for breakfast.

"Why don't you suck my balls mr garrison?" is a pretty good comeback to almost anything (bonus points for saying it through a megaphone)

"Fuck a doodle doo!" has become my exclamation of choice since seeing Shaun of the Dead, as has "Would any of you cunts like a drink" when its my round.

Orange County is one of the great quoting films in my opinion, as well as being massively underrated. The creme of the crop being the classic Jack Black line 'do you want me to get naked and start the revolution?'

My simple and probably obscure entry is from 'Hot Fuzz' when Danny asks Nick if he wants to do something that evening and when asked what he had he mind, he just goes "Pub!?!"

I just love Nick Frost's inflection on the word.

Lately I'm also fond of the way Chris Walken calls John travolta "bAaBy!" in Hairspray and delivering it in my finest Walken accent.

Most quoted by me:
"Mind if I have some of your tasty beverage?" and then taking the drink regardless if they say no. (Pulp Fiction)
"What, proper fucked?" (Snatch)
"It's very fascinating, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to hurt you." (Robin Hood: Men In Tights)
"They mostly come at night.. mostly.." (Aliens)

It's funny though, quoted lines do depend on the big movies at the time - I remember when you couldn't talk to anyone without "There is no spoon" coming up.

ANYTHING from Kevin Smith, endlessly quoatable stuff.

"I feel like Im Han Solo, your chewie, she;s Princess Leia and we're in that fucked up bar!"

" mighty duck fucks!"

And my personal favourite spouted as advice about my new girlfriend by my best mate, "Oh, and remember don'ty pull your cock out until she ask's. Or she's sleeping. BONNNNNNNNNNNNNG!"

ps have to say I used "Laugh it up fuzzball", last night!

"We're gonna need a bigger boat" - Jaws

"Surprise cockface!" - Team America

"I know it was you Fredo. You broke my heart. You broke my heart!" - Godfather part 2

"About the biggest pair you ever seen, dingleberry!" - Clerks (used to greatest effect on the golf course)

"I love lamp" - Anchorman

"Well played sir" - 40 Year Old Virgin / Knocked up

"I am a leaf on the wind" - Serenity (usually while driving slightly faster than the police would like)

"I may be a bastard, but I'm not a fuckin' bastard" - Dusk till Dawn

"And then?" - Dude, where's my car?

"Dude!", "Dude!" etc - BASEketball

"Hey pig fucker. Can I call you pig fucker?"
"No, only my friends can call me pig fucker" - BASEketball

I could go through the full list of BASEketball psych-outs but you probably get the idea!

You can also fill hours of conversation with anything from Star Wars, Wayne's World and Austin Powers.

Galaxy Quest: 'By Grabtharr's Hammer! What a saving!'

Any line from Life of Brian, especially 'He's a very naughty boy'.

A day out paintballing just isn't the same if you don't at some point start repeating "I'm gonna have me some fun". It can equally be applied to any competetive, preferablly contact, sport.

Equally, if you're looking to inspire confidence in any team environment I suggest "It's like my sargeant said to me before one trip into the jungle 'MEN! 50 of you are leaving on a mission, 25 of you ain't coming back'". Classic!

Personally i like

"quickly, berfore ze germans get here" from snatch

Anchorman kicks ass.

One of the worst ones (and i'll admit to doing this) is speaking like borat and using lines from his film e.g.

" is happy time, yes" - leaving work on friday evening

"yagshamesh" - greeting people for the first week after the film.

Family guy is another great TV show that i always hear people quoting

I'm sorry to disagree with you James, but Anchorman is far superior to Dodgeball (in my humble opinion that is)
As far as movie quotes go, some of my faves:

Hamburgers! The cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast! - Pulp Fiction

Here's to swimming with bow legged women! - Jaws (pretty much everything Quint says in the movie can be quoted)

By The Beard Of Zeus! - (the far superior to Dodgeball) Anchorman

Please don't disturb my friend, he's dead tired - Commando

Why you stuck up, half witted, scruffy looking nerf herder! - The Empire Strikes Back

Just a few there, I could go on for ever but I won't!

'You can get killed walking your doggy' - Heat ... perfect for the UK at the moment.

'Do you know why? cause she's got a great ass!! And you've got your head right up!' - Heat

' Look but don't touch. Touch but don't taste. Taste but don't swallow!'

'Don't waste my mother fucking time!!'

Bill Murray is a great source. My personal favourite, when a friend or colleague engages me in banal conversation:

"Ned, I would love to stand here and talk to you... but I'm not going to."

On a similar theme, if someone (usually my mother) spends an overly long time telling a tale that is either non-sensical, not funny, or simply pointless, you can't go wrong with a comedy pause and then an ultra-sarcastic "What a great story." Thanks to Steve Martin in Parenthood for that one.

3 from the same speech:
"Don't think. FEEL!"
"True emotional content"
"Do not concentrate on the finger or you will miss all the heavenly glory" (pronounced in an exceptionally un-PC pseudo Bruce Ree accent as "orrda heavenry grory")

And another Enter The Dragon fave: "Bullshit, Mr Han-man." and "You come right out of a comic book"

Continuing on the bad oriental accent tip: "that's fried rice you plick"

"Bitch be cool"
"Shit negro - that's all you had to say"
"That's pride fuckin' with you"
the eminently re-usable - said with dawning realisation as per Marsellus just before Butch has to crash that Honda: "Mother-fucker"

I can not seriously believe there have been no mentions of any James Bond quotes! Easily the most quotable at my workplace. Everybody does the Connery voice. My fave has to be "I don't mind as long as collar and cuffs match!"
There are so many that almost any cheesy line sounds like Bond.
Especially Moore or Brosnans; "backseat driver" "we're going down together" "keeping the British end up sir."
If you are ever outside Nik Nak "Ze plane! Ze plane!"
Goldfinger "No Mr Bond, I expect you too die!"
Blofeld " GOODBYE Mr Bond!"
Endless quotable rubbish for any situation.

Ghostbusters "OK SO, she's a dog".
Untouchables "Here's how you get Capone, he pulls a knife you pull a gun, he sends one of yours to the Hospital you send one of his to the morgue, that's the Chicago way"
Animal House "Toga Toga Toga" or my personal fave "You fucked up, you trusted us"
Star Wars "You came in that thing, you'r braver than I thought" (This could be the Millenium Falcon or some sort of strangely gay innuendo about Han and Chewie)
LOTR "My Preciousssssssssssssssssssssss"

Team America is also very popular in these parts. I love the already mentioned "Surprise cockface!" and "Smartass motherfucker!"

"It's a little childish and stupid, but then, so is high school (insert nature of work here instead for effect)."

"If things don't change for him, he's gonna marry the first girl he lays, and she's gonna treat him like shit... 'cause you can't respect somebody who kisses your ass. It just doesn't work."

I like arnie's quotes like for example the ones that he says before or after he has killed somebody. In predator when he throws the knife into the guy and says into the camera "stick around" and later when he kicks the door down in the hut and says "knock knock" and kills two guys and what's fun is waiting for him to say them in the films he's in.
The die hard films are also a good source of movie quotes as well as van damme movies which have some pretty good quotes in them, their's a good one in demolition man. "your going to regret this for the rest of your life both seconds of it"

I would agree with those who quote heavily from Dodgeball, Aliens and Pulp Fiction. But am I the only person in the world who quotes from the two other most quotable films?

"A hospital? What is it?" "It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now."
"Surely you can't be serious?" "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley."
"Captain, how soon can you land?" "I can't tell." "You can tell me, I'm a doctor."
"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue."
"The tower, the tower! Rapunzel, Rapunzel!"
"I can't tell you that. It's classified."
"You're a member of this crew. Can you face some unpleasant facts?" "No."

A Few Good Men
"You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!"
"What do you want to discuss now - my favourite colour?"
"Commander, I'd like you to leave the room so we can talk about you behind your back."
"And the hits just keep on coming."
"Oh, now I see what you're saying. It had to be Professor Plum in the library with the candlestick!"
"I'm gonna rip the eyes out of your head and p*ss in your dead skull! You f*cked with the wrong Marine!"

I would like to point out that many of the latter group are particularly inappropriate when used during an argument with your wife.

Richard Dreyfuss in "let it ride" whe he looks at camera and says:
"Am I having a good day or what?!"

Bill Paxton in Aliens about the fact that the little girl survived all alone, everything he says is classic:
"Well put her in charge then"

And two Sci-fi classics - Millennium connection
"Soylent green is people" from Soylent Green
"Its full of stars" from 2001

OH. Completely forgot the brilliance of Zoolander.
"Hansel. So hot right now. Hansel."
"Did you think I was too stupid to know what a eugoogooly was?"
"Who are you tryin' to get crazy with, ese? Don't you know I'm loco?" (most effective if you do the wooshing hand movements too)
"I don't want to hear your excuses! The building has to be at least... three times bigger!"

Ahh, classic.

Any line said in Pulp Fiction that comes from Samuel L. Jackson my favourite being 'Hamburgers, the corner stone of any nutricious breakfast.'

But the most quoted line whenever I asked someone about a film's famous lines is: 'Your only supposed to blow the bloody doors off.' From The Italian Job.

Zoolander - 'It's in the computer?'
Magnolia - 'Stay away from my mother fuckin closet'

my fave quote can't be easily dropped into a conversation, but it is a classic.... The Usual Suspects 'The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist'....

and my girlfriend is getting sick of me saying 'Cornetto' to questions about what i want from the shop....

The definitive predator quote is 'You're one ugly mother fucker!' or 'Knock knock'. Fact is Arnie is the most quotable man that has ever lived, Terminator; 'Fuck you, asshole.' Commando, 'Don't disturb my friend, he's dead tired', Total Recall 'Consider that a divorce', Commando again 'How much are they paying you (Bennet), all these lines can be used, when appropriate of course.

Roger Moore in The Spy Who Loved Me; 'What a helpful chap' is coolness personified after pushing a guy to his death from a rooftop
Olivier in Marathon Man 'Is it safe?' applies quite nicely to a number of things

I agree with Sgt Hartman from Full Metal Jacket being an excellent quote source. My personal favourite is to ask someone who's annoying me how tall they are, and when they answer (eg. "5ft.9") to reply loudly,
"5ft.9, I didn't know they stacked shit that high!" Also LOTR is an excellent source.
"The salted pork is PARTICULARLY good." followed by Ian Mckellen's superb delivery of "(grunt) Hobbits!"
Gollum quotes: "Stupid fat hobbit!"
"It burns as it freezes!"
Legolas' unneeded exposition. "There is a foul voice on the air!" (best used when someone you dislike is speaking)
The universally loved classic, "They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!"
And of course, the ultimate quote by Gandalf, best used when someone wants to get past you... "YOU...SHALL NOT...PASS!" Extra points for hitting the ground in front of the person with a stick if you have one at hand.

An old favorite of mine, usually used when leaving work with friends or when sick of whatever bar/pub godforsaken hell hole that you might be in:
"Billy find us a way out of this hole"

Had a friend at uni. If he wasn't interested in joining in the frivolities or whatever hair-brained scheme was being planned, we'd just paraphrase the classic vader quote: "Sister? So you have a twin sister, well if you won't turn to the darkside then perhaps she will!"

Fight Club is always good for quotes:
"as I pass, do I give you the ass or the crotch?" - still a question I don't know the answer to!
"Go ahead, Cornelius, you can cry." - whenever a mate is having a whinge
"I haven't been f*cked like that since grade school!" - use as necessary?
"I am Jack's smirking revenge." - after a particular satisfying payback.

PS, how could i forget the quote dispenser that is Anchorman? Just a few of my favourites,
"Hey everyone! Come and see how good I look!"
"Brick, where'd you get a hand-grenade?" "I don't know."
(Anything said on the tragic bridge scene)
"Great Grandmother's Spatula!" (I think said in an outtake on the DVD)
"Why don't you go back to your home on Whore Island?" Best used when arguing with girlfriend.

I forgot Blade Runner

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."
"The candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long"

Also Office Space
"I might burn down the building"
"I'm just not going to go anymore" "What you're gonna quit?" "No, I'm just not going to go anymore.
"What would you do if you had a million dollars?" "I'll tell you what I'd do, man: two chicks at the same time, man." "Damn straight."

And of course Beavis and Butthead
"Are you threatening ME?"
"I am the great Cornholio. I need T.P. for my bunghole."
"Thats the coolest thing I have ever seen."
"This sucks more than anything that's ever sucked before."
"Uh, attention! Attention! We're looking for the chick with big boobs! "

whenever anyone uses the word 'surely' "...and don't call me Shirley."
and for the hell of it "I just want to tell you both good luck. we're all counting on you."
as well as many others

Loads of lines in Chicken Run, Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead "Cock it!" are infinitely quotable. Only yesterday me and a mate quoted virtually all of Shaun.
A couple of personal favourites are Gimli in Return of the King after Legolas kills the elephant thing, "That still only counts as one". To be used in any circumstance when somebody has greatly bettered another. And another fabourite in Hitchhiker's Guide TV series, "So here we are a million light years from home. Pity it's such a dump!" To be used whenever you've been forced to go somewhere you didn't want to go.
Die Hard, Terminator and Star Wars are all brilliant quoting films as well. "Ho Ho Ho now I have a machine gun."

I can't quite believe nobody has mentioned The Princess Bride, it's one of those films where it's really not hyperbole to say every line is quotable.
For me generally it's a simple 'My name is Inigo Montoya...', but other favourites are 'I am not left-handed', 'Inconceivable!', 'My way's not very sportsmanlike,' anything in a Peter Cook accent, 'Yes you're very smart. Shut up', 'My brains, his steel, and your strength against sixty men, and you think a little head jiggle is supposed to make me happy? Mmm?', 'You've been chasing me your whole life only to fail now? I think that's about the worst thing I've ever heard. How marvellous' and my current favourite 'I'm not a witch I'm your wife!'
It's a shame Cary Elwes turned into a potato.
Like someone else I also use 'I'm a leaf on the wind,' with some of my friends who are frankly terrible drivers. Other commonly used Serenity ones are 'Define interesting' 'Oh god oh god we're all going to die?', and 'I cried like a baby. A hungry, angry baby.'
As for the person who mentioned metaquotage in Spaced, Shaun and Hot Fuzz the ones in regular usage at the moment are 'By the power of Grayskull!' and 'This shit just got real,' as well as perhaps the ultimate metaquote 'Never taken a shortcut before?' My other current favourite Hot Fuzz ones are 'Nobody tells me nuthin',' 'He'll be having nightmares for a while...', 'Don't go being a twat now,' 'Pack it in Frank you silly bastard!' and a lot of the profanities from the airline version that are on the DVD - 'Peas and rice!' 'He thinks you're talking a load of old silt,' 'You cheeky funster!'
Hmm what else. Well, '-wise' is a regularly used suffix, The Apartmentwise. As for the regularly mentioned Aliens 'Get away from her you BITCH!' is probably my favourite.
Disney movies are also remarkably good. 'And every last inch of me's covered in HAIR!' from 'Gaston' in Beauty and The Beast is brilliant.
Finally, seeing X3 was mentioned in the article, my absolute favourite whenever locked

Whenever a friends dog is being overfriendly;
"Will somebody get this walking carpet out of my way?"

Anytime something goes wrong at work, in the great tradition of Jack Bauer;
"Dammit Chloe" - even if no-one called Chloe is around.

Being a policeman, any line from Hot Fuzz can be used at just about anytime;
Favourites include, whenever it's a rubbish job and i'd rather be elsewhere "Police work is not about proper action. Or shit"
When a choice needs to be made "Point Break or Bad Boys 2", in a West Country accent of course.
When the blues are on, "Fire up the roof" of "Bring the noise".

One of my favourites though if Im in the car at any time with a bad driver, from The Empire Strikes Back, "Would it help if I got out and pushed?"

Although we're talking about movies, I think Futurama's Zapp Brannigan deserves an honorable mention as TV's most quotable character:

"But you forgot one thing: Rock always beats scissors. But scissors cuts paper, and paper covers rock. Kif we have a conundrum. Search them for paper. And bring me a rock."

"You know Zapp, someone ought to teach you a lesson."
"If it's a lesson in love, then I must warn you: I suffer from a very sexy learning disorder. What do I call it, Kif?"
" Sexlexia."

"With the head domino destroyed, the rest will fall like a pack of cards. Checkmate."

"We both know you won't get halfway to Vergon 6 before THE CRAVING sets in. Then, you'll come crawling back for some sweet, sweet candy. .....BAM."

"If I said you were beautiful would you take of pants and dance around for me a little"

"I find the most erotic part of a woman is the boobies"

"Sleep when you die man!" Alien Ressurection
I used to use that all the time when my mates said they were tired. It really anoyed them.

"The little hand says it's time to rock and roll" Hot Fuzz
To be used when you realise things are about to get crazy at work & stuff

"If the milk turns out to be sour, I 'aint the kind of pussy to drink it" Lock Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels
To be taken seriously when negociating

and of course if someone calls your mate fuck-face (or any interchangable name).

Umm... I noticed no one mentioned 51st State... I know most people may not like the film, but the funniest thing I ever heard was Meat Loaf's quote:
"I've been truly ass-invaded"
Useful quote to use if everything's going to shit...
Oh and 300 of course:
Before a long and possibly bad day at the breakfast table:
"I shall eat a hearty breakfast, for tonight I dine in HELL!"
Or if you do something daft and a mate says "That's madness"
You say... "THIS IS...", well subsitute SPARTA! for whatever it is you are doing/where you are! that sometimes works!
Oh and personal favourite of mine, again for when something goes wrong,
"Your're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"
Shameless I know, but damn I love that film. First film I ever watched as a kid lol!

"They took the bar......the whole fucking bar!"

and the great Mel Brooks;
On trying to get a pen back into its holder
"Think of your secretary sir....there you go"

"How did he do such fantastic stunts.....with such little feet!?"

"Can we get more beans Mr Taggert?" " I'd say you'd had enough!"

"You have to remember these people are the common know, morons"

"A wed womantic"

"Stay close to the candles, the stairs are trecherous" ( said when the candles aren't lit :)

Gutted: Coppers beat me to the "No! No no!" rant from Sexy Beast. Cunt.

But my most used quote from that film is shamelessly and irritatingly employed every time I sunbathe: "It's fuckin' 'ot!" (my girlfriend doesn't get that one)

Labyrinth: "That's not fair" in a pubescent Jennifer Connelly whine sometimes with a girly foot-stamp (my girlfriend gets that one). Or Ludo's "SMELL BAD" in a loud pseudo-Chewbacca yawl.

Carlito's Way: "You think you're big time? You're gonna fuckin' die! Big time!"

Scarface (so many to choose from . . .):
"All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break them for no one"
"You know what? Fuck you! How about that?"
"When you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women."
"I bury those cockroaches!"

the unfairly reviled Deuce Bigalow (how can anyone hate such a quotable classic?):
"See this . . . Know where I got the money for it? . . . Man-whoring."
"Don't make me he-bitch man-slap you!"
"God-damn, white-boy!"
"That's a huge bitch!"
"Fart! Dildo! Big, Big, Big Titties! SHIT! SHIT WHORES!"
"Keep it in the circus freak!"

And finally (I promise) - just to lower opinions of me even further, I give you Kung Pow: Enter the Fist:
"And here I was starting to think you were just a sadistic psycho bitch"
"I rock. And roll. All day long. Sweet Suzy."
"That's a lot of nuts!"
"Killing is wrong. And bad. There should be a new, stronger word for killing. Like badwrong, or badong. Yes, killing is badong."
"Take a close look. 'Cause I rule, baby."
"I'm sure on some planet your style is impressive, but your weak link is: this is Earth."
"Knock, knock. Who's there? Your butt that's about to be kicked!"

"100,000 sperm, and you were the fastest?" From Vertical Limit.
Sunshine: "So if you wake up one morning, and it's a particularly beautiful day, you'll know we made it."
"For seven years I spoke with god!"
Also great is to say, "There is nothing more important than delivering the payload" before sex.
And lets not leave out the great quotable cartoons.
Futurama: "If only I could believe or understand that."
"If rubbing frozen dirt into your crotch is wrong, hell I don't wanna be right."
"Now you folks can go to bed; as for me I'm gonna stay up all night and sing songs about penquins in a fine piercing tenor."
Family Guy: "I can't, um... I don't, err... What?!?" "Buttscratcher!" "Cool-Whhhip." "AHH, IT'S EVERYWHERE!" IT'S IN MY RACOON WOUNDS!"
Simpsons: "Faster boy, he's got a taste for meat now!"
"She died of loneliness... loneliness and rabies." "AAAAH! MY GROIN!"
"Why Monty, I'd swear you were the devil himself..." "WHO TOLD YOU!?!?"
"I'm cold and the wolves are after me."
As anyone here, I could go on for years, but shan't.

Is it only me who suspects James just realised a blog on this topic would destroy all previous blog comment records??

That said... I alter movie lines and say them all the time!

My top ones have to be:

"It's a flesh wound!"
- Monty Python & The Holy Grail

"I have two guns... one for the each of ya." (alter "guns" for whatever you happen to have two of)
- Tombstone

"Boy, bet that's frustrating."
"Sorry about... Bruce mate...." (Bruce can be changed to pretty much anything!)
"Theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeres... nothing to see!"
- Finding Nemo

"Get up Trinity... get up!" (Great for waking people up in the morning)
- The Matrix

"You're never around when I need you!"
"I like that, do you know I do?"
- Robin Hood, the Disney version

back to the future is incredibly quotable....

"Great Scott!"

"1.21 gigawatts!"

"88 miles per hour!"

"roads? where we are going we don't need...roads."

"This is heavy"

"Manure, i HATE manure!"

"Hey Mcfly!"

and any use of the word "chicken"

there are more....but u guys agree with me right? i mean i'm always quoting this! whenever some film comes along that plays with time-travel i remember the very last scene in the back to the future trilogy - " means the future hasn't been written make it a good one....both of you"...or something of the sort. it's just such a perfect way to end things don't u think?

'Heroes' (as much as i love it) derives most of its inspiration from this franchise - and Hero even says "great Scott!" in one episode as an homage (when he speaks to himself).

awesome stuff.

From Shawshank, "Sir, why are you being so obtuse?" Considering i work in an office where the vast majority of people's first langauges aren't english, this one goes downa treat since hardly anyone knows what obtuse means!

Reservoir dogs: "Playing the worlds smallest violin just for you" while rubbing fingers together. use at a whinging mate.

Starship troopers: "C'mon you bunch of apes, you want to live forever!?" use to motivate

Holy grail: "No, lets not go to camelot, it's a silly place" use to veto a desicison to go somewhere

Clerks: "I hate people, but i love gatherings. Isn't it ironic" or indeed almost anything randal says throughout every askewniverse movie.

Jay and Silent Bob strike back: "Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, mother mother fuck, mother mother fuck fuck, mother fuck, mother fuck, noinch noinch noinch, smoking weed smoking weed, drinking beers doing coke, rolling blunts, who rolls the blunts? we roll the blunts." "fifteen bucks, little man, put that shit in my hand, if the money doesn't show then you'll owe me owe me oh!" - I just like to sing this.

Starsky and hutch: (if you're with a freind who can do the second line) "I like your moves" "I like your style"

Don't Be A Menace: "Message!"

Kiss kiss bang bang: "If you need anything, please hesitate to call"

Leon: "remember when you came here, you were already in trouble because of a woman" used to berate mates in the past

Rushmore: "Tell that mick he just made my list of things to do today"

Big lebowski: again, just about every line but my faves include "Dude, you're being very un-dude..." "Fuck it dude, lets go bowling" "shut the fuck up donny!" "Life does not stop and start at your convenience ya miserable peice of shit!"

The Life Aquatic: "God damn, son of a bitch, cut!"

1 Film that i never fail to quote from, Waynes World!

Garth;Uhm, Wayne? What do you do if every time you see this one incredible woman, you think you're gonna hurl?
Wayne; say hurl. If you blow chunks and she comes back, she's yours. But if you spew and she bolts, then it was never meant to be.

Garth;Did you ever see that "Twilight Zone" where the guy signed a contract and they cut out his tongue and put it in a jar and it wouldn't die, it just grew and pulsated and gave birth to baby tongues? Pretty cool, huh?

Wayne;A gun rack... a gun rack. I don't even own *a* gun, let alone many guns that would necessitate an entire rack. What am I gonna do... with a gun rack?

Garth; Ribbed for her pleasure. Ewww

Del Preston; So there, I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopkeeper and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really, but sure enough I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.

You know what Jack Burton always says... what the hell?

And if we're not back by dawn... call the president.

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

Great movies, great quotes :o)

Any of the below can be weaved into conversation with a little creativity. Or if you are like me, just said outloud randomly.

"Back up, put the gun down, and gimme a pack of tropical fruit bubblicious...and some skittles" - Bad Boys

"Big f*$kn eyes, but a really nice fish" - Bad Boys 2

"A model...idiot" - Zooooolander

"Der, Ick, Zoo Land Errrrrr" - Zoolander

"But why male models??"

"Whats Tatas precious" - LOTR

"For pities sake, give them a moment" - LOTR (Sean Bean accent all important)

"Don't tempt me Frodo!!"

"Cornetto" - Shaun of the Dead
"But there is an 'I', in meat pie"
"No Shaun...I'm sorry"

"I killed a guy with a trident. "I saw that!" - Anchorman
"It's a deep burn!"
"unique New York"
"Now this is happening"
"I immediately regret this decision"

Or anytime your crossing a road and a car comes by "Car.........Game On!" Waynes World

If any new guy at work asks who you are in a way you don't like
"Who am I? I'm the guy who does is fucking job! You must be the other guy" The Departed

I cant believe Spinal Tap has been so woefully ignored in the quoteability stakes - who cant find time to say:

"Anyway, this is what I sleep in sometimes" - when you have said something stupid and been made to look slightly daft

or "Well....its ONE louder" - Anytime!

or "Do you wear black..?" - Watch their faces...

or "Dont even POINT...seen enough of that one!" - LOL

or "I think mine would look better in Dobly"

or "Whats wrong with being sexy...?"

or even "They were still booing him when WE went on"

or possibly "You can go and take a bite, and you'll still be hearing that one"

or, the now legendary, and possibly ultimate - ".....these ones go to eleven".

The above is only a small selection - the entire script is quotable, and I would wager anybody to come up with another film that is richly encrusted with quotable gems!! Pure comic genius it is too.

For us, it is a mundane and functional item. For you it is the basis of an entire culture" and "George, who's using the family brain cell at the moment?"

Or Lord of the Rings where by the third film, however much I worship them, I can't help but think Legolas has grown thicker and is reduced to stating the ovious like "A diversion!" well shock horror! Sam too, "That's for Frodo! And that's for the Shire! And that's for my old Gaffer!" and "I can't carry the ring Mr Frodo, but I can carry you!"

Or Pirates of the Caribbean- we've spent the last 5 years going "That's it, then? That's the secret, grand adventure of the infamous Jack Sparrow. You spent three days lying on a beach drinking rum", "Welcome to the Caribbean love", "I think we've all arrived at a very special place... spiritually... ecumenically... grammatically" and even "Why i the rum gone?" even if that is getting a little overdone now- classic

a great line from Dog Soldiers and one I always use when I'm in dark woods or a creepy old house etc!

Starship Troopers has been mentioned but not the best lines, ie: "Mobile Infantry - made me the man I am today." Also, for when even a friend gets hurt, from a scratch to a major body trauma....MEDIC!!!

Finally a couple of quick ones: "Are we having fun yet!" from Universal Soldier and ideal for shouting out loud when everyone in the office is in a foul mood.

I agree that Arnie is the most quotable actor ever, here's just a few examples of how I've used his dialogue (written as Arnie pronounces it on screen, of course!)

When someone says something you don't/can't believe - "Caam ahn! Don't boolshit me!"

If you are looking for a friend called Jenny - "Wheyarz Chenney?" (from Commando)

Instead of telling someone to go to hell or whatever, I prefer to use the line "Duh Hell vid choo!" from Conan / The Running Man

I could go on and on. He's got so many quotes that you can use in so many different ways. All hail Ahnuld, King of Quotes!

" Don't make me use my stuff on ya baby!"
" I felt my pecker flutter once, like a pigeon havin' a heart attack"
" But what do I care? I got a growth on my pecker. "

Robocop has to be one of the most quotable films ever... my personal favbourite has to be:
"Come quietly or there will be... trouble"
Arnie has a quote for every occasion - "Da Guy'z a facking asswhooule!" can pretty much be used every day.
And who could forget Mickey from Rocky... "He'll knock ya into tomorrow, Rock!" and "they can cause a variety of damage" are classics.
As far as TV shows go, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace is a goldmine...
(voiceover) "What I couldn't work out was how he'd managed to make another man pregnant... I guess we'll never know. So just to restate, that IS something we'll never know, you're not going to find out later"
I could go on forever... starting this thread was a cruel, cruel thing to do!

We have won again! *Roar* That is good, but what is best in life?

The open steppe, a fleet horse, the wind in your hair, and a falcon at your wrist.

WRONG! Conan! What is best in life?

I know I'm probably misquoting, but sometimes you remember lines better than they were in the movie. A couple of prime misquotes from Happy Gilmore which I love to reel off:

They wouldn't let me in the golf club...
Oh, I'm sorry Chubbs. Is that because you're black?
Hell no! It's because of my damn manky hand!

Don't worry. Carved it myself out of solid oak. Strooooong stuff.

And acting the following out with props is always great fun:

The Untouchables - the whole "Better than you, you stinking Irish... pig" "Oh, I like him!"

MIB - "Edgar, your skin is hanging off your bones" "Is that better?"

Garth Marenghi is genius. "You shut your mouth, Liz!" "She's turning into broccoli." "They're taking over!" Could quite easily go on forever. And would that be a bad thing?

It will make me look rather lame for enjoying this film, but The Pest does have some good ones you can find room for somewhere in day-to-day life:

"This jeans make me look fat"
"No, Malaria, your fat butt makes you look fat!" - obviously, replace the name.

"[in sing-song voice] You can't hit me! You can't hit me! You're a big sucker-butt! Ha ha ha, ha ha ha! I can't believe you're German! Ha ha ha!" - I don't know, it just became rather frequently quoted after my family saw the film.

"But I don't want to make the kill. I want to be a hair dresser, write musicals." - If you're told to do something you don't want to. Just change the "make the kill" thing. Sorted.

Himmel: Don't flatter me.
Pest: OK, your feet stink, your nose is point and your mother dresses you funny!

"You look like Moe from Three Stooges. I fire your ass!"

You could probably quote the film easier if you were being hunted.

Lots of good quotes in the first Matrix i.e, Agent Smith: "Mr. Anderson", "I can taste your stink". Neo: I know Kung Fu, Morpheus in reply: Show me. Security guard: Please remove any metallic items you may me carrying, keys loose change, holy shit, and many more. Also from Total Recall, screw you benny and from Commando, I let him go.

dunno how useful these are in everyday life although I confess to using them myself:

"Would you *please* not fire at the thermo-nucleur weapons?"

"Say hello to my leetle friend"

"You! Come to my chambers at 10" (pause) "oh, and bring a friend"

"hoo haw!" works best for me when you make a full house on the turn and your mate takes a bad beat with his flopped flush (snigger)

"My Father? He was a drunk, a gambler and a womaniser...I worshipped him!"

"Tomorrow morning we'll be outside the bank, like stink on shit." - Angelo Pappis - POINT BREAK

" Oh, you the man! You the fucking man!" - Martin Lawrence's character - BAD BOYS

" Why don't you suck a fart out of my asshole" - Jim Morrison - THE DOORS

" Well let's not start sucking each others dicks just yet." - Mr Wolf - PULP FICTION

" Hand me the keys you cocksucker." - Fenster - THE USUAL SUSPECTS

If I can include The Office, two very easy ones to use:-

"You can still find 'em" and "I might bloody well have to now, see ya later."

NB: Must be said in a Brent like manner.

Told my mate about this and he reminded me that we always use:

"Are you crazy don't go between them!"

"Go between them are you crazy!?"

I haven't used the following in conversation but it doesn't mean it's not brilliant:

"When my kids grow up they're gonna come round here...and FUCKING EAT YOURS!" - I.D

Just to add my own Ahnuld line - "Nice Night For A Walk".

"Here endeth the lesson"

There's so many to mention but I think we all agree that Arnie is numuro uno for quotes, to paraphrese a classic, Sully: "You said you were gonna kill me last..." Jonh Matrix: "I LIED!"

Two of history's most quotable films have to be:

1.The last boy scout
- "I'm just trying to break the ice" , "I like ice, leave it the fuck alone"
- "Holy shit, we're getting beaten up by the inventors of scrabble"
- "This is nothing personal" , "that's what you think, i fucked your wife last night"
- "I wanna make you scream" , "play some rap music"
- "so what's your daughter like?" , "she's 14, and if you even look at her funny I'll shove an umbrella up your ass and open it"
- "Touch me again, I'll kill you"

2. Dog Soldiers
- "Bone"
- "So if little red riding hood should show up with a bazooka and a bad attitude, I expect you to chin the bitch"
- "They'll have your balls for breakfast", "hardboiled or fried?", "Scrambled"
- (After Sarge lends his watch to spoon) "What about you Sarge?", "Well I'll count won't I"
- "Whats bone mean?" "bad", "bollox", "not very good"
- "there is no spoon"

when someone asks how much you weigh-
" i prefer not to answer that right now, i'm still carrying a little holiday weight."

So many to choose from - can't believe Lost Boys has only been mentioned a couple of times!

Personal faves not already mentioned are -

I think I should warn you all, when a vampire bites it, it's never a pretty sight. No two bloodsuckers go the same way. Some yell and scream, some go quietly, some explode, some implode, but all will try to take you with them

Don't kill me, Mike. I'm basically a good kid. - often quoted to my older brother when he tries to punch me!

So many more - when driving fast - 'Burn Rubber does not mean warp speed'

I also like No Retreat, No Surrender

the fat guy in it especially when asked why he hates RJ - 'I got my reasons' Use that whenever anyone questions my dislike for something - and at McDonalds - 'Stick with me, you'll never go hungry'

LOTR, Star Wars and POTC - especially since i live in Singapore, Ken Watanabe's line "welcome to Singapore" in a very bad accent, or Johnny Depp, "clearly you've never been to Singapore" come in handy!

and I just love Gladiator - "at my signal, unleash hell!" or "my name is maximus dessimus meridius" (very impressive)

Here's a good one to use if someone says they've screwed up just a tad.
"In space terms a tad is half a billion miles" Airplane 2

And if someone tells you some gossip story that they've heard always reply (in a dry Ian McKellan voice) "Is that what they say?" X-Men 2

A few phrases have made it into my normal canon:

"What are you afraid of? Ze Germans?" - Snatch

"Fuck-a-doodle-doo" - Shaun of the Dead

"Hows that for a slice of fried gold?" - Shaun of the Dead

"Where is your cock-sucking God now?" - South Park (pretty much anything The Mole says is fair game)

But my mates and me try to insert as many innocuous Star Wars quotes into mundane conversations as possible:
"Cut to the left, I'll take the leader"
"Who's the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?"
"That name no longer has any meaning for me."
"We don't have time to discuss this in a committee."
"He's the brains sweetheart."
"Laugh it up fuzzball."
And of course the classics, do or do not etc.

But a friend of mine has turned this into a quest. He has a special place in his heart for Wedge Antilles, a minor character from the Star Wars saga. So EVERY DAY he makes sure he inserts the word "Wedge" into a conversation. Now that is commitment.

Anchorman, from the street fight - "I'm gonna straight-up murder your ass". Priceless.
Lost In Translation has provided us with the opportunity, when offering directions or instructions that involve turning to the right, to embellish said instruction by adding "with intensity".

Another personal couple of favourites from Mike Myers (who doesn't seem to be receiving much coverage here from my admittedly brief read through the comments):

"That's no woman - it's a man, baby!"

"'re partied out man. Again."

Jeff Goldblum saying "Dino, er, dino droppings?" became endlessly quoted and exaggerated by my brother and I, eventually turning into something more like "Dino, er, dino, dino drop, drop, droppi, drop, droppings? Dino droppings? Droppings? Droppings?" Not strictly a direct quote, but it's entertaining. And is that not, in the end, the real truth? The answer is no.

I'm still waiting for the synchronicity of events which will allow me to use in normal conversation the quote "crucifixion's a doddle". Why wasn't i born 2000 years ago in Judaea? Oh well...

Wedding crashers. Vince Vaughn - Genius

Soft mattress? Maybe, or it could have been the midnight rape, or the nude gay art show. I had my sock, the one that I walked around in all day, played football, sweated in, stuffed in my mouth and duct taped in! I'm going to eat my breakfast over here. Don't talk to me.

My favourite for when anyone is being a Doubting Thomas -
"I find your lack of faith disturbing", - whilst making a Force choke hand gesture obviously.
And every morning when I come into work -
"Another glorious day in the corp........." - from Aliens
or when you're stuck in a queue -
"Your move, creep" - in a metallic voice
And following any injury-
"I ain't got time to bleed"

Ah, the Star Wars saga, Aliens, Robocop & Predator, the most quotable films of all time.

O Brother Where Art Thou, the most instantly quotable film ever made...

"Dammit, we're in a tight spot!"
"They done loved him up and turned him into a horny toad!"
"He's bonafide!"
"I don't want Fop, goddamn it! I'm a Dapper Dan man!"
"Cows! I hate cows worse than coppers!"
"Oh, George, not the livestock..."
"You two're just dumber'n a bag of hammers."
"Who elected you leader of this out-feeat?"
"Well, ain't this place a geographical oddity. Two weeks from everywhere!"
"Well, it didn't look like a two-horse town, but try finding a decent hair jelly."
"(Insert name) is R-U-N-N-O-F-T."

Superbad is a total quote-fest. I particularly like how Jonah Hill says: "By the time college rules around i'll be like the iron chef of pounding vadge!".

I have a habit of saying "You want the story? I'll spin it for you quick" (said by Bruce Willis towards the end of Planet Terror) whenever someone asks me about my day. Using "why come?" instead of 'how come' has been a necessity since I watched Idiocracy (Justin Long says "why come you don't have a tattoo?"). I also think the words "all new 'Ow My Balls'" whenever I see an advert for a shitty new t.v. show.

However, my favourite quote has to be from Christopher Eccleston in Shallow Grave:
"If you want to talk to my girlfriend, you talk to me first. If you want to dance with her you apply in writing 3 weeks in advance or you're gonna end up inside a fucking binbag! You didn't apply so you don't dance!"
Amittedly that's quite hard to edge into a conversation, so I usually just laugh and mutter "fucking binbag" whenever I see one.

I can't be arsed to read the whole thread so apologies if these have already been mentioned but I reckon THE most quotable film has to be Big Trouble in Little China. Not only is it the finest film of the eighties this side of Road House but it's also Kurt Russell's best film EVER (I'll fight anyone who disagrees!) and it's full of gems (that normally start with "you know what Jack Burton always says..."'

"You know what Jack Burton always says... what the hell"

"Like I told my last wife, I said, "Honey, I never drive faster than I can see, and besides... it's all in the reflexes.""

"You know what ol' Jack Burton says at a time like this?" "Who?" "Jack Burton... ME!"

"When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

Granted, the last one is trickier to use than the others but if you can't fit that into conversation, there's always my personal favourite...

"Son of a bitch MUST PAY!"

"EXCELLENT!" (air guitar sequence) - Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

"It's computers...things are getting bigger...yet smaller...SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM RULES!" - Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, again.

"MOTHERFUCKING SNAKES!" - Snakes on a Plane, can be said at absolutely any given time.

"My man..." - American Gangster, must be said in a Denzel voice. Actually it's okay to replace "man" with any given noun.

*random beard-muffled foreign mystical sounding words shouted out with great epic-ness* - Lord of the Rings (gotta love Christopher Lee)

"Blaaah! I'm the Kraken from the seaaaaa!" - Juno

"They took my HOME! They took my FAMILY! They took...EVAAARERYYYTHIIING" - Blood Diamond

"Newcomer Jake Tyler doesn't know what he's in for..." - Never Back Down trailer, because of the excessive amounts of americanised cheesyness.

I didn't read all these quotes, but did read quite a few, and no one seems to have included Bickle's famous "you lookin at me" quote or any Scarface quotes, which are too numerous to mention, but my favourite is the "you need me" speech.

Then theirs Wayne's World which was so quoted it is now shite. But a classic is the hockey in the street, "Car! Game off!"

My screen name always amuses me when I am forced to highlight a friend's stupidity. Bonus marks for simultaneously rapping him on the head a la Mr Tannen...

Whenever one has to explain anything to someone, always finish with a pause, then ... "And that's how you get Capone..." Love it.

If anyone mentions the word "enthusiasm", please repeat ad nauseum, adopting 1930's Chicago-cum-New York drawl. Subsequent and excessive use of a baseball bat is not advised...

When someone needs encouraging: "Do it; do it" in a resounding baritone (for those of the method acting persuasion, tucking one's chin into one's neck often assists in hitting the right register).

I will openly admit that I find it amusing to drop film quotes into conversations. If the person Im speaking to doesnt realise that I'm doing it, then great, I carry on doing it. If they do realise, we have a laugh about it, and I stop.

Obviously some quotes can be used more than others - the ones that require some sort of set up occur every now and again, but there are loads that I just drop in.

I have remembered these ones that I use a LOT:

By The Power Of Grayskull! (Hot Fuzz)

Damn you vile woman (Family Guy)

When someone compliments me for something;
Thanks....I like to play (Wayne's World)

There is only ever one reply when someone asks me if I want anything form the shop:
Cornetto (Shaun Of The Dead/Hot Fuzz)

Don't get penis-y! (Family Guy Blue Harvest)

It's completely random, but for some reason my friends and I do use this quite often:
Would you like a schmoke and a pancake? (To be said like Goldmember)

Toit, toit like a toiger, yesh...

Oh and just to wade in on Dodgeball v Anchorman. Dodgeball is admittedly a perfectly enjoyable movie, but you can't touch Mr Burgundy for quotes with class:

"I'd like to invite you to the pants party..."

"It smells like big foots dick!"

"Go fuck yourself San Diego"

"You have bad hair"

"Dorothy Mantooth Is A Saint" (I yelled that at someone recently. Can't remember why)

"Brick? Where did you get that hand grenade?" "I don't know"

"You are a smelly pirate hooker"

"What? You pooped in the refrigerator? And you ate a whole wheel of cheese? How'd you do that? Heck I'm not even mad... that's amazing"

and you know it's been a good day if you can have the whole office join in a chorus of "Sky Rockets In Flight... booooo... Afternoon delight!"

And I know it's become pretty gauche to use Star Wars quotes ever since the series got its final outing but I'm still drawn to using a quote from the whole she-bang's most underrated character - used when an uncertain decision is to be made: "Are you certain the homing device has been secured aboard their ship? I'm taking an awful risk, Vader. This has better work..."

And last but not least, from Alien and used in every context imaginable: "I'm not sure of your chances. But you have my sympathies." Classic.

"My name's Ronald Kornblow. I stop at nothing."

"You know what happens if you do another turn in the joint?"
"Fuck your father in the shower and then have a snack."

And from Blackadder cos it's the greatest sitcom ever:

"You're as thick as clotted cream that's been left out by some clot until the clots have become so clotted you couldn't unclot them with an electric de-clotter...aren't you Baldrick?"

"May I offer you my most sincere...contrafibularities."

"She's got a tongue like an electric eel and she likes the taste of a MAN'S tonsils."

"Now, I may have the sort of tackle you'd expect to see swinging between the hind legs of a Grand National winner, but I'm not stupid."

"Come on, Darling. We're leaving."

Oh, yeah. A quick bit of Brass Eye and then that's it.

"A spokesman said, 'This is the one thing we didn't want to happen."

Great film quotes from the last snow boarding holiday...

"No fear Grimesy!" said whilst poised at the top of the slope. (Black Hawk Down)

"Why do we fall Bruce?" when your mate wipes out (Batman Begins)

"I can hear bells ringing!" in reponse to any post wipe out "are you alright?". (Black Hawk Down)

Other useful quotes are:

"You will be... you will be" in a Master Yoda like pronouncement when ever someone says there not something (e.g. hungry). (Empire Strikes Back)

"Is he polite? Is he clean?" when ever someone goes to answer the door. (Swingers)

"You are so fucking money". pretty good for most circumstances (Swingers)

If asked whether you're ready "I was born ready!". (Big Trouble In Little China)

In response to someone's dubious driving "Sounds like a blown transaxle. You're just grinding metal." (Aliens)

'My Name is Inigo Montoya you killed my Father prepare to die' (repeated ad nauseum)
' You rush a Miracle Worker you get rotten miracles'
'You seem a decent fellow I hate to kill you'
'You seem a decent fellow I hate to die."
'As you Wish'

and I agree with previous posters Predator and Aliens just so many quotable lines.

Other lines that have stuck for me even though the movies themselves aren't that memorable:

What do you see when you're in the dark and the demons come for you?
I see a Dead President
Eastwood and Malkovich in In the Line Of Fire

'You Dance with the Devil the Devil doesn't change, the devil changes you' Joaquin Phoenix in 8mm.

And Happy Gilmore and Wedding Singer just the way Sandler delivers the lines a bit line Mike Myers with the Austin Powers movies instantly quotable: Although the best line in Happy G is actually first spoken by Carl Weathers.

' Just tap it in..' Happy G
Well, I have a microphone, and you don't, SO YOU WILL LISTEN TO EVERY DAMN WORD I HAVE TO SAY! - Wedding Singer

Die Hard: 'Welcome to the party pal', oh course 'yiipie kia Motherfucker'. 'come to the coast, get together, have a few laughs'

Aliens: 'Incase you havnt been keeping up with current events but we just got our asses kicked', 'they mostly come out at night, mostly', 'leave her alone you bitch'

and "you're too stupid to have fun" - what does that even mean?

For me, some of the most quotable movies would be:
Angel Heart, Hot Shots, Top Secret, Naked Gun, Swimming with Sharks, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs... not going to regurgitate now, visit IMDB if interested... here's just one or two from some of the above:
"Angel Heart":
"Alas... how terrible is wisdom when it brings no profit to the wise"
"They say there's enough religion in the world to make men hate each other, but not enough to make them love."
"No matter how cleverly you sneak up on a mirror, your reflection always looks you straight in the eye."
"The future isn't whay it used to be Mr. Angel".
"I got this thing about chickens".

"Swimming with Sharks":
"And now try to follow me, because I'm gonna be moving in a kind of circular motion, so if you pay attention, there will be a point!"
"If they can't start a meeting without you, well, that's a meeting worth going to, isn't it? And that's the only kind of meeting you should ever concern yourselves with"
"And when you're done with her, west lobby, tube dress, stiletto heels, hurry. Fetch!"
"Say this one time with me: "Would you like that in a pump or a loafer?"... Good. Now memorize it, because starting tomorrow, the only job that you're going to be able to get is selling SHOES!"
"You are nothing! If you were in my toilet I wouldn't bother flushing it. My bathmat means more to me than you!"
"Avoid women directors. They ovulate. Do you have any idea what that does to an three month shoot?"

Bonus points for whoever it was who brought Roadhouse, truly the finest American film.

'Pain don't hurt.'

'I heard you had balls big enough to cum in a dump truck, but you don't look like much to me...'
This line made all the better with it being followed by the most incomprehensible comeback ever...
'Opinions vary.' Genius.

Also, the two greatest pick-up lines in movie history...

'I get off at 2, and I'd love to get you off a half hour later!'
And my personal favourite...

"I desperately wanna make love to a schoolboy."

"Oh, Austria! Well then, let's put another shrimp on the barbie!"

"Tell her I'm good-looking and I'm rich and I have a rapist's wit."

"We have plenty of towels, thanks."

"Maybe she'll invite us over to her place for some tea and strumpets!"

"Those skis yours? Both of 'em??"

"Where the beer flows like wine, where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of capastrano!"

"7:45? Can we make it more like a quarter to eight? I have some stuff I need to do. OK fine, 7:45."

Lloyd: "Excuse me, what's the soup du jour?"
Waitress: "It's the soup of the day."
Lloyd: "Mmm, that sounds nice. I'll have that."

"No way....that's great! WE LANDED ON THE MOON!!!!"

And of course, "Who through the salt shaker at me??!" and "Kick his ass, Seabass!!"

There are so many more in that movie, I could go on for hours. Just read the script!

Eraser - "You're Luggage!" after dispensing a gator
Big Lebowski - "Do you have to use so many cuss words?" "What the Fuck you talking about man?"
Roadhouse - "Time to DIE!" "You are such an Asshole!"
Spinal Tap - "Money Talks and Bullshit walks" only funny because of Ian's perplexed reaction.
Anything from Point Break "Fly Like an Eagle Baby!"
Old School - "you do work at Red Lobster" "Yeah but its part time, DICK!"
Fargo - "Well I'll be a son-of-a-Gunderson"

Tombstone - "I'm your Huckleberry!"
Return of the Jedi - "There's....too many of them" best deployed with a faux Japanese accent

As all have said could go on, but there are just a few i like to dispense to work colleagues and friends on a regular basis...

The Naked Gun: "Like a midget on a urinal, I had to be on my toes"

Rambo 3: When Rambo and Trautman are surrounded by a whole Russian army Trautman turns to Rambo and says "Whattaya say, John". Rambo replies while closing a grenade launcher tube "FUCK EM" -

"He didn't like me, he never liked me!!" - Rocky Horror

"I'm afraid I can't do that." - 2001 a space odyssey

"Nothing nothing, tra la la." - Labyrinth

"Frell!" - Farscape

"Smeg" - Red Dwarf

"I'm Brian and so's my wife!" - Life of Brian

"Heeeeeeeere's Johnny!" - The Shinning

"You better take care of me, Lord. If you don't you're gonna have me on your hands." - Fear and Loathing (and so many more!)

"Ah, this is obviously some strange usage of the word 'safe' that I wasn't previously aware of." - Hitch Hikers, but anything by Douglas Adams. The guy was a genius!

having read through all 514 comments here (yeah its been a slowday at work and has taken me since 8am) i am shocked to see that the 2 most quotable lines from Ghostbusters has been missed

"Who are you goin to call?" (used when ever anyone asks where the phone is)

"Dont cross the streams!" (for when i just shouldnt be done)

also from Serenity

" I aim to misbehave."

" Remember, if anything happens to me, or you don't hear from me within the hour... you take this ship and you come and you rescue me."

this last one hard to work in to a conversation but it is the reason i went and see the film in the first place

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: "Do you want to run this ship?"
Jayne Cobb: "Yes!"

Whenever asks me if I did something that I never wanted to do: "Yeah, I was going to do that, and then I just went on livin'" Russell Brand from Sarah Marshall

Also from Forgetting, whenever I come across anyone with a British accent, it takes every ounce to not scream "You sound like you're from LONDON!"

Any Matt Damon movie, no matter what it is: "You know, I always thought Matt Damon was like a Streisand, but he's rocking the shit in this one!" From 40 Year Old Virgin.

Whenever someone tries to make excuses NOT to go out: "It's Friday... you ain't got no job... you ain't got SHIT TO DO!" doesn't matter if they A) have a job or B) it's not Friday.

Whenever someone asks what we should do, not matter what the situation: "You need to get your ass to Mars." from Total Recall.

From South Park, whenever someone asks: What about so and so? I always throw out "Fuck Gregory, fuck him right in the ear!" Even if the person is not named Gregory.

From the TV show, whenever anyone says something completely stupid, I respond with a "Thanks Towelie."

My friend and I always drop, from Family Guy, "Roadhouse!" whenever one
of us does something spectacular.

This is kind of a dark one, but whenever anyone is talking about their Grandma, I find a way to drop, from Annie Hall, "My grammie was too busy getting raped by Kossacks." Movie lovers laugh out loud, those who don't know the line...well makes ME crack up.

Also from Annie Hall, when someone asked me to do something that they said they'd do too, I drop a "No, Jew?"

From Bad Boys, whenever someone is bugging me, I give them a "Mike please, go downstairs and have a Coke and a smile."

Caddyshack, whenever someone asks me how my day was and it was pure shit, I tell them about my day then finish with: "...but when I die I'll receive total consciousness. So I got that goin' for me, which is nice."

Anchorman for me.

The first rule of quoting movie lines in real life situations is you do not talk about quoting movie lines in real life situations

What about Michael Cane in the Italian Job, "you're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off", and the classic "I am McLovin!" Not to mention the show stealing yet uncredited performance of Will Ferrall in Wedding Crashers "MA, WHERES THE MEATLOAF, FUCK", quality!

it may not be a quote but doing the bill and ted air guitar or screaming "exellent!" would work, or even go tenacious d and say "were just men, made of flesh and BONE!"

ok so i know it technically doesn't count because it's from the tv show rather than the film but does anyone else ever get the urge to say "my days of not taking you seriously have definitely come to a middle" as Mal does to Jayne in "our Mrs Reynolds" from Firefly?

You will still sure feel uneasy after seeing all your laboriously packed items say goodbye to you as the door of the truck is closed. As soon as it heads off to the new location without you in it, you cannot help but think if your items will arrive safely or if they will survive the trip without getting a single scratch. A broken mirror and scathe items will be the last thing you will want to deal with after a move

I'll be back must be up there as one of the most quoted! Others include:
"Well allow me to retort" Samuel L Jackson (Or any other Samuel L Jackson Pulp Fiction quote)
"You're going to need a bigger boat" Jaws (exchange boat with any other item)
"What's in the box" Se7en
"The 5 golden rules of Dodgeball! Dodge, Dip, Duck, Dive and Dodge!" Dodgeball
"Where did you get that suit? The Toilet Store?" Anchorman
There are more which I'll remember later. I'll be back
